Taiwanese smartphone company HTC Corp launched a new phone on Monday that Burmese customers will be able to use without having to download Burmese fonts. The company, whose CEO Peter Chou was born in Burma, hopes the move will give it an edge in a country that is seen as having huge potential as one of the world’s last large untapped telecommunications markets. “You don’t have to spend two months to learn how to type it,†Chou said in an interview with Reuters, speaking of the new phone. Only 3 percent of Burmese own a mobile phone, compared with 56 percent of Bangladeshis.
