I am currently getting my 1yr business visa and in the process of moving to Thailand permanently. I am also getting married later this year. We will be having the wedding in the US. Here is my question: when I change my name should I...

A- get my new passport while still in the US and have the local Thai consulate transfer my visa to the new passport?

B- not change my name until I get back to Thailand and get the new passport and transfer then?

Immigration will not transfer your visa to the new passport, regardless whether or not it has the same name as the old passport. An extension of stay, on the other hand, can be transferred.

Ah good to know. So I am on a tourist visa and am about to apply for a non dependent visa based on my husbands visa/1 year extensions. He is on an M visa. Also i am about to apply for a new passport so I should do this first.. ? If I get a new passport I go back to having a tourist visa?

You will not be getting a visa you will have an extension of stay as your husbands dependent. Your extension will be equal to your husbands. If the remaining time on his extension is longer than the validity of your passport you should get your passport first because your extension would only be valid up to date your passport expires.

If you had a valid visa in your passport it would remain valid you would just need to use both passports when entering to use the visa in the old passport.

Immigration will transfer extensions of stay and visa info to a new passport.

If he has an extension from immigration he does not have a non-m visa.

You will have to leave the country to get a non-o visa in order to get an extension.

Hi he is a foreign journo so every year he gets a Non-m from the MoFA.

They have submitted pw to the KL consulate for mine. However I am in the process of a name change so just wondering if I should wait for my new passport in the married name and then get it or if it would be transferred. you know I don't want to hassle the MoFA

If he was getting visas he would have to leave every 90 days.

It would probably be better to wait until you have a new passport. Having to show two passports with different names could cause problems.
