Different Size Tires

Featured Replies

I have a truck using 265/70r17 tires. I was given a free spare that is 265/70r16. In the event of a blowout is it ok to replace one tire with a different size just to get me to a tire shop or would this do significant damage to an axle?

Additional: with no 100% differential lock, for the purpose, to reach the next tire shop: no ploblem (for me)

as they are different dia i say ok for short distance but it would be better to put it on the front so it woud be less load on the diff.. s o if you have a flat at the rear better to put a front wheel on the back and the spare on the front

Most trucks in Thailand, driven by Farangs, are more heavy on the front, methinks.

I wouldn't bother, to change twice, befor going to the shop. Even if .loaded. the 16'' can do the load as good, as the 17''

The 16'' only need to 'roll' about 3% quicker, and the axle part is about 1.5cm closer to the road, at that side. That's it.

If a Ford with limited slip rear diff read the manual. If no LSD and not in 4WD then should be OK for a short distance at low speed.
