There were some changes to the tax system late last year. Normally I file for my return online. I could log in, but could do no more, as it was expecting a 13 digit number. Mine is 10 digits. This doesn't affect Thais as they already use a 13 digit number. My wife phoned the tax office and was told we need to apply for a new tax file number. Has anyone filed for their return this year (with a 10 digit tax number) and had any issues?

I had this probelm last year. We (my Thai administrator helps) tried last year with no luck on line, and subsequently spent half a day in the tax office working directly with the people there. As I understand it, they could create a new 13 digit account for me - BUT - they could not transfer the records from the ten digit account to the 13 digit account. This would have meant that all the old tax payment records would have been lost.

On their advice - we stayed with the ten digit, and will do the filing in person again this year.

So, not much help from me I am afraid, but simply to say be very, very clear and careful with them that they do not simply take the easy way - and lose all you past filing information.....

Thanks. On friday a fellow teacher had his tax return papers sent to his house (mine are delivered to my school, which haven't arrived yet). He had a brand new 13 digit number on his form - however, I think my school weren't aware of the new numbers and the preliminary papers supplied by the school still has the old school number. I think I'll wait for my official tax form to turn up from the tax office and see if it also has the new number. When my wife phoned them last week, and check on my name, they said I don't have a 13 digit number, and need to apply for one...rather confusing! Once I get the number I'll try to do the form online again.
