Dreambox 500s not working since 4 days ago .Now can watch only TNN , TNN2 and some Thai education channels(DLTV) .Tried to unplug and plug it back but situation remains the same.

Set up is password protected , TuxBox commander password protected, :blue button password protected. The person who set it with all these passwords cannot be located anymore.

Tried to get to ip address of the box , need username and password.

Have been trying to google for a solution for the past few days with no success ,wonder if you guys can help as myself kindergarten level on this.

BTW, channels on the black screen with informations SRN 99% , left hand corner , I (yellow ),ND (yellow ) , EPG (red).

This is really doing my head in , is my Dreambox becoming a door stop?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Can you download plugins or is that blocked as well?

If it's card sharing it ain't supposed to be discussed here, but if you did have encoded channels this and they've gone, the chances are your provider has gone tits up or they've turned you off to get some more money out of you.

The default login for a Dreambox is:

username = root

password = dreambox

If you still cannot log in then try going to Addons Download and redownload Tuxbox Commander. Hopefully it will overwrite the version with the password and allow you to follow the instructions on the link above.

If that fails then I'm afraid you will have to use a program called Dreamup and reflash the box then reconfigure everything. You could also try an old program called Flashwizard. Check your router info pages to see what IP has been allocated to the dreambox.

I don't think Tuxbox Commander will overwrite the password on its own.

But it is how you do it. Assuming he can get to Tuxbox Commander:

Fire it up and navigate to var/etc

Select the passwd file. Hit 4 to edit it.

You’ll see something like this:

Your root password will obviously be different to the above. What you need to do is replace the first line with this:

And you have to be exact.

That resets the password to “dreambox” (without the quotes - password is now dreambox) and you’re good to go.

Mods: This is not "hacking" it is simply a way to reset your Dreambox root password in case you forget it.

As I said , everything is password protected, the set up , the blue pane, the tuxbox commander , knew the ip address of the box but it is passworded as well .

Guess need to take this BRICK to the shop and let the expert to reflash and reset it as I am no good at this.

There is a new 'Open PLi' Flash for the Dreambox 500S Beta version came out on the 20th, yesterday.......... I have saved it to desktop but not flashed a box yet.. silly as the DM box is so easy to flash with the latest Image, or re-flash back to an older image it don't like.

@ ignis . Thanks . Will look into it after return home , presently at work. However I do not know what to do after downloaded to notebook or desktop , from what I gathered after googling for the last 5 days , I need a null cable which I do not have.

There is a Thai hacked image for the Dreambox out there. Free before. But, went to subscription payment a few days ago.

Look at "Plugins" in the setup. See if there is something about account status?

If you want to leave the current (possibly hacked) image, then you might try the "factory restore" to see if you can get a working image with default password. Has worked for me in past. But, would have to set it up again.

@TwentyBaht . Thanks. Cannot get to set up , password protected. Every time after reboot , a picture shows" BLUE DRAGON inside " , don't know whether this is the image you mentioned or not . Cannot get to plugin , passworded. Cannot get to factory reset neither , so what options left ?

None of my alternative receivers have worked properly for some months, ditched the lot as too much trouble.

If you just want the Free to View channels go and buy a TrueLife box from your local satellite shop.

As Crossy says, these hacked (alternative) images/plugins have been dropping by the wayside during past months.

And, if your "Dragon" image programming is no longer maintained, then a next step is to use DreamUp with a null modem cable (serial) and flash another image in order to use the DM500 again. No password required for this.

Why would you need a serial socket as the dreambox has a lan port.

Lan only works if the box boots correctly AND you have the username/password, which the OP doesn't seem to have.

I got to flash it with lan port. However can anyone point me to a image that has tv 3/5/7 working?
