If you get a pension from the UK, then you could get a letter from the Embassy, and use this.

If you are not in Bangkok, then an extension in Thailand based on marriage needs to be sent to Bangkok and you get an initial 30 days, when you return you get the rest. However, if you go the retirement way, you get the one year stamp straight away.

By the way you do not get a visa in Thailand you get an extension to a visa based on many reasons.

if you use the retirement way then you need to show an income of 65000baht per month or 800,000baht per year. British Embassy are quite good about this.

Just registered - this is my first post smile.png .

I was told by an immigration officer at the Immigration Office at Chang Wattana that the bank account required for an extension of my non-immigrant type O beyond 90 days had to be in my name only with 400K B. However, when I applied at SCB for such an account, the branch manager told me that as a foreigner, I could not not have an account in my own name, it had to be a joint account with my Thai wife. Hmmm... what do I do?

Thanks!

Per above. The bank manager is wrong and you will find a lot of banks telling you "no can do".

In such cases, simply go to another branch or another bank all togehter, till you succeed. I bet you will have little problems opening a bankaccount at Cheang Wattana.

Just try another branch or bank.

You wife can help with opening the account as a reference showing her ID card, house book and signing a form.

Just back from Imm give the official(Not the same one ) the requested paperwork to obtain family visa extention he looked at paperwork looked at bankbook give me back paperwork got this box of stamps out and from a selection of about 50 proceeded to bash the paperwork and passport with stamps and tells me to wait over their for a while .After 30 Mins he calks me back to the table and gives me passport back informing me if I need to leave Thailand I have to get a re entry stamp, now I completely confused as I was waiting with the wife to be interviewed etc for family visa so I am standing looking at him and ask him ``I have family visa`` no I give you retirement visa same same.

Of course I know what happened the bank balance done the trick .

What can you say,

What can you say,

You could say

No I want to work

No I want to apply for Citizenship

Best to show an account with not much more than 400k in it.

And what you wanted was a one year VISA extension by reason of marriage to a Thai.

MIght be your fault for asking for the wrong thing.

It was my choice to ask for Family extension I never once asked about retirement despite the bank balance.

Next year if I want family extension I will have 400k and 1 baht

My point being there is no such thing as a 'family extension'

Why would you ask for something that doesn't exist, from a person who's ability to think (in English) is severly limited.

The personal form we all have to fill in asked what why you want extension if you put on the form you are supporting Thai wife and family I would have thought it would give them a clue.

If you read my first post about my first trip to the office the official then completely understood what I wanted that's why he sent me away to get marriage reg paper updated with new stamp but today it was another official he looked and we had little conversation he just made his own decision about what I wanted .

The big hanging board above their table tells us what that desk deals with and one there written is Thai family and that's what I said to him.

I am in no way unhappy about what the outcome was the post for info only for others .Now I know

Thai wife is the name for the extension and normally it is stamped as such. But as you found out much easier to issue retirement if over 50 and meet the financials as a local decision on the spot and a lost less paperwork for everyone.
