Don Mccullin Shoots Digital

Very insightful, especially his viewfinder approach.

His observation about everyone checking the LCD after shots was ironic. When he ws doing his still life, that was exactly what he did.

It was great to see him shooting his hand held landscapes. He would might take two small steps to one side, frame, then maybe one step back, until he had the composition he wanted. Most of us will stand at one spot and spin that ring!

That's because he was using Liveview and it's only viewable via the LCD screen

Again he had no ring to spin as he was using prime lenses

What I find curious is their agreement to ONLY use ISO 800 outdoors and ISO 3200 indoors.

I think those ISOs were in reference to handheld photography.

And, yes, prime lenses do make one think. Plus, working a lot in B&W requires even more thought. Not only does one have to compose the scene, one has to really think in terms light, shadow and contrast.

It's great how healthy he appears at 77!
