webfact
Unchained backhoe falls off truck in Pathum ThaniBy Coconuts Bangkok A backhoeBANGKOK: -- Have you ever felt nervous driving alongside or behind a truck carrying industrial machinery or (even worse) lumber that seems to be hanging on precipitously by little more than hope?Truck driver Mr. Thanasit Songanjan isn’t doing much to alleviate your fears. On Sunday afternoon he loaded a backhoe onto his 10-wheel truck and – “driving only a short distance” – decided against using ropes or chains to hold it down.In a predictable demonstration of basic physics, the backhoe slid off the bed of the truck and crashed on its side on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Pathum Thani when Mr. Thanasit took a right turn at Poonsaub T-junction.Full story: http://www.coconutsbangkok.com/news/unchained-backhoe-falls-off-truck-in-pathum-thani/-- Coconuts Bangkok 2013-02-

geriatrickid
Always some excitement to behold. Perhaps Thailand can be a hub of excitement? Anyway, it was good that the exciting news article exposed this egregious escapade of the errant excavator that exited the elongated vehicle. The illustration really, really helped. The only thing missing was little lego construction figurines to further illustrate the perils of such activity.

I must say, without someone in the picture pointing at the relevant item, I was rather confused. What were they trying to convey?

Popular Post Bluespunk
The Bangkok Post reports that the accident backed up traffic for several kilometers. Whether or not traffic would have been backed up anyway is open to debate. Brilliant editorialising.

newermonkey
Just the same as my Thai son when asked why he is not waring his crash helmet when setting off on his "btw fast" motorcycle ... "because I am only going a short distance & the police are not in the area i'm going" Is this typical?

cup-O-coffee
Yes! Improving the trucking industry in all areas as well as the roads they are required to negotiate is definitely more important than building police stations and bridges. Without the trucks you don't get the goods. There is nothing else but the trucks that separate the difference between a resemblance of a civilized society and a society gone chaotic. It is regrettable that Thailand does not embrace this view.

johnlandy
Thanks for the picture, did wounder what a backhoe was, we in the UK know them as a JCB Diggers. It wasn't a backhoe that dripped off the truck, it was an excavator. (and the photo is not as the one that dropped of the truck) And the reason they have the generic name (of JCB) is that they are made by J C Bamford Edited February 25, 2013 by johnlandy
