Transport Min: Air traffic to be under control in case of April blackout

BANGKOK, 7 March 2013 (NNT) - Deputy Minister of Transport Gen. Prin Suwannathat has assured that air traffic control towers across the country will be able to operate continuously 24 hours a day without effects from a possible power outage on 5 April.

Gen. Prin said after visiting the air traffic control tower at Suvarnabhumi Airport that the Metropolitan Electricity Authority would send electricity to Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Company for no less than 375 volts from 5-14 April 2013 when Myanmar temporarily stops distributing gas to Thailand.

The backup power will be prepared in case a blackout occurs during the period.

The deputy minister, therefore, expressed confidence that air traffic control at all airports nationwide would carry on as usual and would not be affected should there be an electricity shortage.

Aeronautical Radio of Thailand will conduct a power outage drill on 3 April as a preparation.

I have heard that an order is being placed for 1,000,000 glow worms and 1,000,000 empty jam jars so as to ensure the airport runways are lit.

It seems as if the plan is to line the runways with the aforementioned jam jars, each contains one glowworm thus at night when the electricity power fails the glowworms in the jar will mark the runways perimeters thus air traffic control will be able to accept aircraft for both landing and taking off operations.

Rumour has it that this scheme originated from the desk of a recently promoted minister for science (now a deputy P.M..)

The whole scheme being based upon the recent success of the boat propeller scenario and the resultant boosting of the flow of floodwater.cheesy.gifcheesy.gif .

I know you jest but something along these lines was probably discussed. The sky's the limit for someone who thinks boat props can push water out to sea. I wonder if deputy P.M. Prop was an avid reader of Mad magazine?

Maybe they can hook up generators to the boats they will use in the flood season to get rid of the water.

Sorry wrote this at the same time as above written.

Wow, wasn't even worried about that until they felt the need to write a story about it!

The backup power will be prepared in case a blackout occurs during the period.

I would be more worried about the fact they dont have back-up power generators attached to these towers permanently.

THey do...that is what is giving them their power every day.

precautions are totally uneccesary, Pongsak said so, you can all relax now.

BANGKOK, March 6 – Thailand will be spared a power shortage during the maintenance of a natural gas platform in Myanmar April 5-14, the energy minister announced today.

Pongsak Ruktapongpisal said the Fuel Tariff (FT) charge at Bt0.48 per unit will remain unchanged.

His statement was hailed by power consumers and industrialists who have been concerned over a possible electricity outage when the Yanada gas platform, one of the major energy suppliers for Thailand’s electricity production, will be fixed and suspend operations April 5-14.

Mr Pongsak said power reserves for April 5 has been increased from 767 megawatts (MW) to 1,424 MW thanks to cooperation from 13 industrial groups under the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) which have jointly reduced power consumption by 408 MW.

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand has also lowered its power usage by 83 MW while small power producers will boost their combined production by 110 MW, he said, adding that the initial plan to purchase 200 MW of power from Malaysia will be unnecessary.

He said the Energy Ministry will carry on its energy saving campaign and that the energy reserves will be increased by 1,674 MW if consumers and shopping outlets manage to reduce their consumption by another 250 MW.

FTI chairman Payungsak Chartsuthipol said the industrial sector will reduce power consumption in every manufacturing process while less important production will be temporarily suspended. (MCOT online news)

When these people say "nothing to worry about" that is the time to worry.

Nothing to worry about.

"BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Energy Ministry unveils the plan to turn the Kingdom into an electricity trade hub".

Sounds like they have more power than they can use.thumbsup.gif

So, what's behind this story ? Surely, no-one is implying that the Honourable Deputy Minister doesnt know what he's talking about ?

Air traffic to be under control in case of April blackout

------------

Air traffic to be under control 100% OF THE TIME.... and not due to floods, electricity stoppages, mama runouts, Singhha water shortages....... but under control........ is rather enlightening as a possible norm?

If a pane crashes, does the ATC do a runner, like a bus driver?

-mel..... ;)

For Pete's sake, read my lips:

There will be no power shortage!

BANGKOK, March 6 Thailand will be spared a power shortage during the maintenance of a natural gas platform in Myanmar April 5-14, the energy minister announced today.

BTW NorthEast of the USA seems to get a baby boom about nine months after Hurricane Sandy caused some problems. The Thai government is doing its utmost to prevent a similar boom here even though some have called for the establishment of a dedicated baby hub

That was ALWAYS my greatest concern, the airports of Thailand, with all the planes up in the air flying in and out of Thailand, what this headline actually means is:

Transport Min: Air traffic to IS going to be under out of control in case of because there IS gonna be an April blackout with all the planes up in the air

freaking scumbags...

There is not any major ATC tower in the world without standby power and UPS systems. This is such a crock of shit. Pull your head in Nation and start reporting reality not opinion. Factual unbiased journalism please. And the 'Transport Minister' just confirmed by this statement what a cretin he is.
