Does anyone know of a business that sells recycled/used building materials? Specifically window frames. I'm not looking for antiques just some solid wooden frames to fit stained glass panels into. Thanks.

I don't know if it's still in business, but there 'was' a place not far from DK Books (one or two blocks on either side?) that sold old building materials. I bought a couple of Newall posts from them to make a climbing 'gym' for my cat. The yard was not quite visible from the street, with an alleyway leading from the office right on the road back into the storage area.

Looking at GoogleMaps Street view, I found the place. It's about two blocks south of DK Books, the alleyway just before a blue painted metal fence....

The place to go for all timber reclamation is Lamphun.

there are many businesses there salvaging old timber houses and the like. very interesting, I have bought many things wood related.

dont waste your time looking around chiang mai, you will find what you want without doubt spending an hour driving the small roads around Lamphun.

Lamphun is quite a large city. Where would one begin?

Thanks, but I don't know the specific location of DK Books.

Let's start from Thapae Gate. I'm pretty sure most folks know where that is. If you walk south (that's walking with the moat on your right,) for about 200 meters, you come to Loy Khraw Rd. It's a large corner with some bars as the corner stores. On your right, there is a way to cross the moat. Keep walking south another 150 meters and you'll see a large blue and white sign that says 'DK Book Center' at the enterance to a large parking area, with the bookstore at the back. There should be a Bangkok Bank ATM on the sidewalk there. Continue south another 250 meters (on the same side as the bookstore) past the ATM, past the Chiangmai Commercial College enterance, and if you look ahead another 100m, you'll see another moat crossing... The lumber yard that sells old building materials is BEFORE that moat crossing on the same side as the bookstore, ATM, and college. The office is a purple building right on the street, then the lane into the lumber yard, then a blue building with a blue painted metal fence. If you pass the metal fence, you've gone 10 steps too far...

I'd suggest talking a virtual walk using GoogleMap 'street view.' You can see each of these features quite clearly.

Since you have been able to find the place on Google Maps it might be helpful if you post the coordinates.

I would, gladly. In fact, I thought about that before. But I'll be damned if I can see any coordinates given on my screen!!! Where are they?

Hmmm.... does this work? https://maps.google.com/maps?q=chiang+mai&hl=en&ll=18.782822,98.993471&spn=0.002174,0.004455&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=52.637906,126.5625&t=h&hnear=Chiang+Mai,+Thailand&z=19&layer=c&cbll=18.782844,98.99317&panoid=6W0oksCxoRz8Rpi0dCIp0A&cbp=12,74.2,,0,6.37

Well, it shows the enterance to the lumber yard, but doesn't give numerical coordinates. It does give a good starting point for a street view though! smile.png

(Why would anyone paint a lumber yard purple?)

tThanks, but I must be 'map challenged.' I can't find anything on my screen that says 'location.'

Nope... reading challenged, not map challenged....

Lets see if this works.... Hmmmmm.... Doesn't work in 'Street View' but does when I zoom out a bit. Thanks, MESmith! I owe ya one!

Here's a more accurate point; 18.783312,98.993202

This puts you right in front of the lumber yard enterance.

Opps! No it doesn't! This is about 30 meters north of the yard.

We have bought a number of old wooden doors and window frames ...start at the intersection of 121 and 1001 (mae jo road) going east on 121 towards doi saket...

For the next 8 or so KMs up to road 1317, there will be a number of recycled old wood shops on the right side of the road. There are also a number of new lumber shops so obviously avoid these....

Be patient as you look for these as you will have to make a right hand turn crossing over the opposite lane on 121 or u-turn as more than likely you will overshoot them as this road can have heavy traffic on it and you don't want to get rear-ended.....

Good luck but should have exactly what you are looking for....
