TommoPhysicist
I got chatting to a Farang in a bar in Soi 6, Pattaya, anyway, we got shooting the shit after he had come back downstairs from the short time rooms, one thing led to another and he told me of a Forum he belonged to, ThaiVisa.... I told him I was also a member and asked for his TV name, he refused to give it, I thought he was joking, but no, he never gave his nickname drank his drink and left, wonder what " I have never paid for sex, and met my wife at the gates of the university " member that was ? I always tell 'em I'm HardenedSoul.

rct99q
Well maybe it is a good thing they do not have smell- atars. old men usually smell bad enough, but those that do not shower or bathe are even worse. I have never met anyone who has walked up to a complete stranger and asked for their opinion on a matter and then told them they were an idiot or worse. So when I start to read a forum and it turns nasty I always know the people responding in such a matter are in need of help and then it is just a matter of egging them on until they really explode and hope that no one is around them when they turn violent. My name is Richard Charles Thays from Ireland, I live near Sangkhom (isaan) have a wife and two children, but will not provide a picture (not to protect myself, but to protect my family) as they are innocent bystanders.
JurgenG
TV is an international forum. Different cultures mix. I know it is considered acceptable in English pub culture to shout arguments in an intimidating manner in order to show one's virility. In other cultures it is considered incredibly rude, we are not baboons. Also in England fistfights are considered an acceptable form of pub recreational activity, like darts and snooker. TV is an interesting melting pot. Edited March 9, 2013 by JurgenG

Forethat
Personally, I only have to browse through the contributors in this thread to find at least two members who's threatened me openly in the past. I think that's a good thing; it makes it easier to judge the winner of a debate... as someone already points out: there are members who simply can't cope with a difference in opinion. I find this fascinating. My experience shows that what people perceive as signs of an incredibly rude and unsightly nature of personality is when you point out to someone that they are wrong. It becomes even nastier if you are ready to explicate WHY someone is wrong – and in addition is prepared to show empiric facts that clearly exemplifies how crazy an argument might be. In the event of such case, a common reaction is that they are clearly dealing with an asocial madman who - in the event that they are totally unable to defend their complete and utter lack of knowledge, or incorrect gibberish, for that matter - entitles them to beat you up in public not only to prevent "the sinister character" from revealing their lack of argument. Pointing out to someone that they are wrong usually leads to accusations of being a know-it-all, but since this is a forum where things are to be debated I don't see the relevance in that argument. If I don't want to discuss something or if I think someone is a jerk I simply keep my mouth shut. But that's me.

rene123
Whatever comments I make,on this site. I would make in person. I'm exactly the same. Making nasty verbal or written comments is beneath my code of ethics. But, I don't mind jousting with someone. If I can be proven wrong in what I write or say then I'll accept it as a lesson learned. CobraSnakeNecktie
Enjoy the anonymity while it lasts. I think South Korea requires an authenticated identity to use the internet. China seems to be moving the same direction. I think its a good thing to have a way to blow off steam. Researchers think pornography blows off steam that reduces real sex crimes and violent video games blow off steam that lowers real world violence. It can be pretty repressive and stifling for a foreigner to function in Thailand and its nice to have an outlet to vent once in a while. I guess some people need a lot of venting on TV.
Ministry of Som Tam
fookhaht, I havent had a lot to do with expats out in the provinces, but the guys in Bangkok seem particularly obsessed with status - who has the biggest package (no pun intended..), the best condo, lives in the 'right' part of Upper Suk, has a hi-so GF and so on. Fine - I dont have a problem with that - but when chronic mongers suddenly start casting aspersions on everyone else because they've 'seen the light' (amen, brothers!), I'm afraid that get's my blood up. Still, as a weekend warrior, I rate somewhere on a level with tuk-tuk drivers in the Billionaire Boys Club hierarchy, so I'll leave it here. Out here in the provinces, it's the same story, just a different tune: how cheap they can live, who is "Thai-er than Thou," whose farm can out-produce their Thai neighbors, and who has stagnated here the longest---that is, if they will talk to you at all. Virtually 99% of my associations out here are Thai, and that's why I'm here. Once in a blue moon a "normal" farang comes along, and he/she doesn't stay long. Can't say what this says about me, but like my jaded upcountry expat colleagues, "I don't care." It obviously speaks volumes about you and your fellow countrymen,I'm amazed you can't see that, just as well that 'you don't care'!

StreetCowboy
I've seen some pretty unpleasant nutters elsewhere on the internet, so in a public forum, I think anonymity is a prudent necessity. My friends will recognise me, and I don't particularly want strangers knowing who I am while they remain in the shadows. SC
muythai2013
there are also many expats that refuse to believe anyone has a nice thai woman. And when people point out they do certain expats refuse to believe it after being burned in their home country by a western woman, retreating with the tail between their legs to Thailand and getting burned even worse. I'm not an expat by the way, and it may come as a surprise but all woman are different to each other, not just mine. so I can safely say yes my wife is different, they all are, what matters is her and my children and I are having the time of our lives. But many Expats here mostly refuse to believe that some people here are happy. Unfortunately, some of those expats have had to hold down proper jobs. It is probably less easy to have " the time of our lives" with that level of responsibility. I find time with my proper job.

robblok
Thing is everyone is different here and Thais are not all the same just as farang are not all the same certain traits are more normal in Thais than in farangs but you will find foreigners that avoid conflict and Thais that speak their mind.. just not many but they are there. We all live different lives and experience different things, so sure people will have differences of opinion. Ow and my name is my real name. I don't hide. Popular Post Radar501
The banter and opposing views are what make forums like this so interesting. Sure, sometimes they become a bit heated, but I think that the TV moderators are just about spot on when it comes to what is tolerated, and what is not. One thing that really irritates me though are the "Oh no, not another..........thread" posts. If you see a new thread that you think has already been flogged to death, better for everyone that you just stay well clear of it. waza
What I post is my own personal opinion, sometime I feel it is fact and sometimes I am trying to be humorous but it shouldn't be taken seriously. But I am constantly amazed how insecure some member are who take posts personally or aggressively defend their points of view or get so upset they cancel their membership. It is after all just entertainment, nobody here is saving lives or changing the world through posting on TVF.
