BRN trusts Thaksin for South peace initiative
The Nation on Sunday

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra won much admiration from the separatist movement for his initiative that led to the peace process in the deep South, according to a former member of the insurgent group that recently agreed to peace talks with Thai authorities.

"He was the first person to have the courage to talk with the BRN. This has made the world community aware that the Thai government acknowledges the existence of this movement," said the man, who prefers to be called "Hope".

The BRN, which stands for Barisan Revolusi Nasional (National Revolutionary Front) in the Malay language, is one of the separatist groups blamed for insurgent attacks in the Muslim-majority southern border region.

According to Hope, Thaksin was involved in talks with BRN leaders a few years ago. The ex-PM met with a group led by Hasan Taib for the first time in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, where Thaksin has been in self-exile since 2008 escaping imprisonment at home.

The talk was mediated by Dubai officials and there were many such meetings later in some countries where the BRN leaders were not residing - these referring to locations outside Malaysia and Indonesia, according to Hope.

Hasan represented the BRN in signing an agreement to endorse peace dialogue with National Security Council secretary-general Paradorn Pattanathabut in Kuala Lumpur on February 28. The former BRN member, in his interview with the Isra News Agency, said that the BRN trusted Thaksin more than the opposition Democrat Party to heed its demands.

"The Democrats will in no way agree to the movement's proposal, but Thaksin can avoid rules and skip loopholes. When Thaksin agreed to talks, the [bRN] leaders trusted him and agreed to talk with him," said Hope.

He said the insurgent movement's ultimate goal was to take control over the land of Patani, which is now the provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat. However, compromises could be made if the Thai authorities show sincerity in ensuring justice for the locals.

In response to the fact that insurgent attacks did not stop despite the NSC-BRN deal in Malaysia, he said there are other separatist groups working in the deep South. "Incidents have not completely gone in the area because it is not only the BRN that carry out the attacks," he said.

Hope said he left the BRN "some time ago" after his mother-in-law died and his wife had to move back to Thailand to take care of her disabled sibling. He and his wife had lived in Malaysia while he was part of the BRN. Before leaving the movement, he was warned against disclosing its secrets.

Although he is no longer part of the BRN, he still follows news and developments regarding the movement and his former colleagues, he said.

Do I remember reading not so long back one of the insurgents from the south saying:

"We are doing this in revenge for Tak Bai"

If that is the case then it shows the amount of trust they have in Thaksin.

Amazing how this fugitive seems to accomplish more than te whole gov't combined. But IMO, they're both jokes

Sounds too much like a PR exercise in favour of the fugitive ex PM than a way out of the mess that Thaksin help make.

They say they trust him, probably because he's the only one that talks the same language as they do...

& I don't mean Thai or Malaysian !!

I wonder what this cost to buy this "trust" ??

How about "Stop the violence, then when I get back into power and turn the country in to a one party state modeled on Cambodia, I will give you the 3 southern provinces"

I betcha !

Sounds little "Hope" is reading from a script written by the Foreign Minister of Thailand. Guess next we will hear that a dipolmatic passport has been issued for the new 'consult for foreign/internal affairs'

A word of warning for the BRN. If you are going to shake hands with Thaksin count your fingers afterwards. Cast your minds to the deals he has made in the past and take note of the outcomes.

Not a big surprise that they say they trust Thaksin because the whole thing is a publicity stunt to make it look as if PT is doing something to solve the century old problem in the South.

Thaksin is in fact deeply hated and distrusted there due to his deliberate fanning of the flames and presiding over the Tak Bai and Krue Sae Mosque massacres and many other attrocities there while PM. However, the BRN stooges making these statements are all connected to the Wadah faction in the South which used to be a rather ineffectual part of Chavalit's New Aspiration Party and was acquired along with Chavalit and a number of other corrupt dirtbags when Thaksin compulsorily purchased NAP lock stock and barrel after the 2001 elections.

Anyway It doesn't matter much whom the BRN trusts because they are a bunch of old has beens that have been taken out of mothballs from the 60s with little or no relevance to the insurgent groups operating in the South today.

A man no longer part of BRN is obviously the right man to say that BRN trusts Thaksin.

Right you are. I was an employee with AT&T and retired in 1994. But no problem I can still represent them in a meeting.......NOT.

With ridiculous names used by the lead actors who have highly questionable standing with any current factions, this ruse sounds more and more like this absurd ruse trotted out in 2008.

Southern Insurgents Announce Ceasefire

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/200628-southern-insurgents-announce-ceasefire/

All that's missing is a laughable televised news conference with wardrobe and make-up like the original story..

Meanwhile, the VERY un-laughable carnage continues.

In today's installment a man was attacked by a gang armed with AK-47's and M-16's who riddled his car with bullets today while he traveled in Pattani.

Makosi Awae died on the way to the hospital from multiple gunshot wounds.

RIP

Thaksin has obviously paid BRN under the table ways in advance... And his sister "Proxyn Shinawatra" is just dancing to his strings attached...

However, according to Thaksin, I am not in the position to conduct such negotiations since I am just an unemployed man,” he said in an interview in Hong Kong. Thaksin said remarks by the two Democrats were groundless, insisting he had never met with any insurgent leaders, including those from the PULO movement.

Seem Thaksin has been caught out telling lies again, his offer of cash for peace fell on mainly deaf ears. However, the cash offer seems to have netted him one ex-insurgent to come onside with the peace talks.

Hasan represented the BRN in signing an agreement to endorse peace dialogue with National Security Council secretary-general Paradorn Pattanathabut in Kuala Lumpur on February 28.

Hope said he left the BRN "some time ago" after his mother-in-law died and his wife had to move back to Thailand to take care of her disabled sibling.

Thaksin is turning what is a distressing and disturbing situation that has and continues to cost thousands of lives into a 3 ringed circus with him as the ringmaster.
