Hi. Does anyone have any suggestions for longterm reasonable price accommodation close to amenities, maybe Patong. Guideline: small bungalow, clean but modest, around 10k or less monthly? Or budget guest house. Thanks.

You can find lots of guesthouses on Nanai at the back of Patong where you can get rooms for under 10k especially when you sign up closer to low season.

If you want a bungalow you can bet nicer and closer to water places further south like Nai harn or rawai area for that price range. Maybe some older bungalows in Kata for 12k.

Sorry I don't have any links it is best not to book online anyways because pictures are usually photoshopped. Check out Nanai and new road in Patong first if you want to be there.

Look in Rawai area Saiyuan road has many places to rent just have to ride around and look.

Just got a great place on Soi 11 for 7000 per month. All brand new a/c bed flat screen TV wifi.

Good luck in your search.

Hello Phuket based forum members.

This thread seems a little old - could anyone please tell me, do these recommendations still hold ? Am planning on travelling down to Phuket, and perhaps networking / trying to find a job / business opportunity, amongst having a nice break for Xmas / New Year, and would like to rent long(ish) term also.

Have been in Bangers looking, but find the expats there I've met, although friendly and up for a laugh, rather guarded about work related issues - I imagine competition is quite fierce in the job market there. Place is too polluted / noisy for me, also.

Would Phuket be more of the same, expat / workwise ?

Have been to Phuket once, Years ago, and am unfamiliar with the layout of the place - Is Rawai still the value for money area ? Simple accommodation - cheap - clean - secure.

I'll be taking a car and a motorbike to get around on once there, so initial location isn't too much of a problem.

Where do all the movers / shakers hangout ?

Didn't mean that as it sounds !

Many thanks for any help proffered.

"Where do all the movers / shakers hangout ?"

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean the well-heeled to be found at all the 1500++ brunches or the scantily clad literally moving and shaking to be found at clubs and go-go bars? Or do you mean something else entirely?

Might be able to be more helpful if you can clarify this one.

Sorry, just re-read and see that you are looking for a business opportunity / networking. In my experience, Phuket is a funny place; you meet all sorts in the most innocuous places and at the weirdest times. The guy next to you at Boots wearing shorts and slip slops could an Executive Chef or a CFO at "home" from Singapore for the weekend. etc. etc.

What sector are you interested in?

Thankyou Blindside -

To be honest, after almost a 4 Year sabbatical (really needed to drop out), workwise I'm interested in more or less anything that pays a fair wage for a fair days work.

Given the demographic segmentation of a large tourist orientated island, probably a service related role would suit me - I genuinely love helping people.

Have a few languages / skills.

I would even perhaps consider working voluntarily for a decent organisation / genuine good cause, just for the sake of having something interesting and rewarding to do.

I'm over chasing the money.... Having said that, I'd like equal, or more coming in than going out.

I'm thinking of setting my missus up with a business, or maybe a couple of small ventures for her and a friend to get their Thai teeth into, and doing something myself in parallel.

I'm not so bothered business venture wise for me - I had a business before here for Years, and can't be arsed doing it all again - you know, find a really good product / service that I believe in, with decent people involved, and give it my all, without all the total responsibilities / headaches that invariably go hand in hand with ownership in this Country.

Not into bs / lying / scam / exploitation / superficial - anything that doesn't involve any of those I'm good with - just want to meet some good, real people that are good for and come through with their word - something I've found increasingly more difficult to find over the many Years I've been here.

Into good value / service / honesty.

Are you loving it / doing okay down there ?

Have you met any alrights ?

Is there still hope ?

Cheers.

Thanks for the advice / suggestions, Falkan....

Actually, after reading your insightful and helpful post, I think I might open a comedy club - seems I've just found my star act.
