[Myanmar] Google Chairman To Visit Burma Next Week

Featured Replies

Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt will visit Burma on March 22, The Wall Street Journal reports. It will be the first visit by a US technology company after trade sanctions against Burma were suspended in mid-2012. “Eric [schmidt] is visiting several countries in Asia to connect with local partners… who are working to improve the lives of many millions of people across the region by helping them get online,†Google spokesman Taj Meadows said. The visit can help Google get a foothold in the country of 60 million, which has low internet penetration and an undeveloped telecom sector. Schmidt is will speak at a public event with local startups, entrepreneurs and students.
