hotandhumid
I haven't been down WS for some time, and now I know why. Towards the end of the night (yes, I was a wee bit drunk) I decided to make a stand about the outrageous price of a jack/coke at Bt180.00 They weren't in the mood for talking so I was frog marched outside by 3 Thai security. Once outside I turn around to ask what the <Snip!> they think they are doing then BANG one lands fall on my jaw. Got a big fat lip now and swelling at the side of my face, I will be on soup for a few days now. Lucky I didn't get my nose broken. The attack was actually witnessed by the tourist police but they said they can't do anything because 'they are Thai' so no suprise there then. Be careful out there. Popular Post brewsterbudgen
Making "a stand" about something, especially something as inconsequential as pricing, is never a good idea in Thailand, especially if you're drunk. I would say you were lucky and hopefully you know better now.

I go down there quite often and, thus far, haven't had a problem But I wouldn't want to frequent a place that employed thugs as doormen. For example I never go in or near Insomnia. marinediscoking
That price sounds way over the top! It would seem ok if it was for a single malt scotch though.
londoedan
That price sounds way over the top! It would seem ok if it was for a single malt scotch though. I imagine that some of the go-go's in WS consider themselves top-tier entertainment venues and can charge what they like. Other options are available. Its the same in BKK, a local, small, bottle of beer in some of the better places on Soi Cowboy have been 180 baht for a while. Its quite an expensive night out nowadays.

First of all trouble can find you anywhere. Of course WS is for toursits in the main but people that live here still go down there as well. I frequent the place on average twice a year, don't see a problem with that at all. Let's not go OTT here.

It might have forced them to act ??? Edited March 24, 2013 by doggie888888

If you are aleady half cut elsewhere and the lads want to go the WS what do you do stamp your feet say you aint going and stay on your own? Of course not, you just end up going (with the flow)

It might have forced them to act ??? I wasn't shocked. To be honest it could have got worse for me, I was a bit shocked and emotional after taking the whack so I started giving the TS a right old mouthful, I remember telling one of them that he was a waste of space. They could have taken me in to be fair. Maybe they didn't because deep down they knew they bottled it. As a rule, should have they done something then? I honestly have no idea what they are there for and what their limitations are if Thai's are involved? They can't arrest a Thai, can they?

Then i went home and slept my loss of myself.

Popular Post StreetCowboy
I shut up once we get outside. There's normally a lot more doormen than there is of me, and I'm normally more pissed than they are, if I'm being asked to leave. I was in a pub with a bunch of friends, one of whom was outstandingly drunk. He was receiving some assistance to find the door by two bouncers. I went over to explain that he had been drinking and he was on his way home, and thanks very much for the assistance, when he leaned over the shoulder of the bouncer who was supporting him and said to the other, "See if I was sober, I could take you". Well, I ducked out of the way just in time. The bouncer flew over and nutted him in the forehead. Then the other bouncer intervened, fortunately, and pushed him out the door. By the time I got out, the other bouncer was kicking him round the road. "I think he's had enough now, thanks very much...". The police have better things to do than deal with people who provoke bouncers. SC

davethailand
Not good what happened to the OP but I find some of the comments a bit strange. WS is on the whole quite a safe place to go and you normally only get trouble when you ask for it. 180bht is a pisstake though. I was disputing the bill with the woman in there when I was pulled away by 2 or 3 guys then I got a clump as I was outside, they pushed me out the door then the clump come from the side as I qwas trying to regain my balance so I don't even see it coming. It was a bit of a surreal feeling at first as I can't remember the last time it happened to me.
