Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has shipped 13 sets of diesel-engine power-generation systems to the Yangon City Electricity Supply Board (YESB), according to a report by the Tokyo-based JCN Newswire. The generators—provided as part of emergency grant aid from the Japanese government in response to Burma’s ongoing power shortages—are Japan’s first large-scale aid to Burma since a quasi-civilian government assumed power in the country in 2011. All 13 units will be installed at the Thar Kay Ta Thermal Power Plant in Rangoon, and will generate a total of 13,000 kilowatts of electricity.
