Tourist visa doesn't mean much nowadays. It's a tourism entry same as visa exempt. If they think you're spending too long in Thailand as a tourist, a tourist visa won't save you the denied entry. -

I don’t understand how this initiative is going to produce the projected benefits/results. I must be missing something. Wouldn’t Thai merchants and vendors prefer cash? Why is it good for tourists? Is cash and credit cards for larger purchases not simpler and more straight forward? There must be something I am missing here. -

Even for a well to do or comfortably off family of four, it’s only 1,200 baht. Is it really something that will change their decision to visit? Back packers might feel it financially I suppose. -

Thailand would be wiser to improve core infrastructure, streamline visa processes, and focus on sustainability and cultural integrity—areas where every tourist, regardless of wallet type, benefits.
