It would be nice to discuss the topic and hear stories from all of you.... nah, nevermind, let's just all attack the OP saai.gif saai.gif saai.gif

it's a global thing. People are offended by the truth..

If its off base then its just silly or lacking merit.

Both the OP and easily offended Thai's are often in denial about reality and trying to beat it back with acting offended at the drop of a hat.

We could all learn from when something feels offending.

I think the OP has a body composition complex.

Go on a diet and turn what may or may not be an attack into a positive. Go with the flow.

Clearly your not happy about your weight or they would't be tweaking you so easy.

you did not read the thread did you, im a fighter, temporarily injured.

yeah I read the thread..

inaccuracies rarely provoke or insult someone.

The truth hurts.

If they said your too brown or have enormous feet you would not have been phased.

You sound tweaked like your female. Are you?

tweaked like my female, what does that mean exactly.

ive since noticed no one is rude anymore, so it was a good idea.

Seriously, you haven't been here long so be careful how you respond to someone male or female.

A wounded Thai is a very dangerous person and you won't see the response coming!

<deleted>, Man up"Muythai", and stand your ground, or at one point they'll mob the floor with you.

Yeah and Star Dust will be right behind you! (laughing no doubt)

No, mate. I fight my own fights.

women are often vain. A lot of them have to spend hours in the bathroom before heading out.

men are less so and often need to be reminded to put on a clean shirt before going out.

Women tending to be more image conscious and perhaps vain are very sensitive to criticism and replay the event in their mind over and over..

If your a fighter you must me used to your coaches correcting you. I am also and see being criticized as invaluable to learning and becoming a better athlete and person.

The lady probably said something like pom pui, the OP doesn't understand Thai but probably heard that common expression, before and he's assumed that he was being insulted as he's sensitive to his increased weight.

the truth doesnt hurt, 9 kilos doesnt hurt, that was not really the issue of the thread just 1 eg.

I am generaly extremely fit and will be when my injury subsides, it is mentioned also how they do it to each other and i have seen them hurt each others feelings often.

dont turn this into a body weight pissing contest you will not win, i am an athlete, 9 kilos is not much i drop it in a week.,, this should not be an argument anyway.

as for thai friends thinking i'm a Dip#$%, my friends never do that, they have better breeding, i bet some people here just sit there and grin and bare it with their wallett laid open for the pleasure of the whole village for fear they will not like you.

seriously I have to call you out. I have been around competitive martial artists all my life. They handle criticism extremely well because they have to and they want to always take feedback and channel it into refinement and success.

Something is not adding up here. You sound like a white belt.. Really.

pom pui( little bit fat) the words were in english.

i understand, if not i would be quiet, i dont accuse people of being rude ever, unless their words, body language and face blatently show it.

It's like you're obsessed with the OP's body image. He already said it wasn't about that specifically. He knows the woman in question, and she is typically rude, so he gave her a taste of her own medicine.

And if you're such a disciplined marital artist, why do you lack the discipline to even stay on topic? Quit the personal attacks against the OP. It's tired already.

BS, we dont have belts.

I have a friend who fought shane mosley, minor criticsm of him gets people smacked, how does that look according to your expertise, most fighters dont react well at all, i'm talking about muay thai and Boxing, not Karate in a dojo where ettiquate and bowing consumes half the lesson.

your trolling

White belt is just saying your either a beginner or full of BS

the vast majority of good martial artists have high self esteem and are hard to offend and take instruction like mature growth oriented seekers of perfection.

Your giving the combat art practioners a bad name by acting like petty image conscious teenage girl

MT, your OP is interesting and therefore I'm happy to side with you for the sake of having an intelligent discussion; but if you're going to continue to engage CSN, then you're pretty much defeating the purpose;) Just PM each other if you still wanna have it out.

Ok, so it's about this one woman in question. It's not a "Thai thing," just this one woman. Yet, as per usual, this whole thread (and thread title) is about the entire population of Thailand because of this one woman. I get it.

What's a good reply to Thais telling you that you are fat, when you are fat?

For the Indian restaurant thing, perhaps, oh no, I thought this was a Bulgarian restaurant!

Can't do that, Thais don't get sarcasm, innit?

Usually I hear, taa reo, or, roo dee.

Posted

little surprised that this could lead to an argument i gotta say.

so i will make it clear, the ones who you know mean it in a demeaning way should be pulled up, they have a bad habit of it.

as for constructive criticism, I have a set of scales and a mirror, it's not like I never noticed and needed to be told in a most rude way, not a friendly way.

not related to other forms of criticism, when my Khru speaks I listen.

Friend stopped at an old gas station, one pump next to his bike, opened the tank.

Owner: 'What do you want?'

I want to buy a fridge.

A fridge?

Yes, a fridge.

No, no, we sell gas. You can buy a fridge in the town down this road.

Oh okay, thank you very much.

Cap back on the tank and off to the next station.

Did you ever try this. LOL. I must. Gotta fill up the bike anyway tomorrow morning. cheesy.gifclap2.gif

As for something construcive: Toss out the scales and do what makes you feel best.

not at all about one woman, i see them do it often, and i see girls get hurt often.

they just dont speak up.

she was making an observation people make to each other.

You were being demeaning.

There is a massive difference.

Such extremists here in thought and word. No the thread is not just about one woman, nor should it be about all Thais.

I think the topic pertinent because the scenario the OP wrote about isn't entirely uncommon: Thais like to joke around, and sometimes the joking IS malicious. And if that's the case, they shouldn't be so quick to get offended when someone responds in kind, when, I repeat, their intention was to offend.

Still your point stands. And if I could edit the title, I would change it to: "SOME Thais ..." or "When Thais ..."

so if you post a pic of your wife or mother, do you mind if we make a few observations.

what was the reason for it, I have had many do it, they dont offend.

I have had others do it, they offend, its in the delivery and they were intending to be rude, and i know a few woman like that, and it shocks them when they get a bit back.

Not an argument. But this is a good topic you picked, with a large variety of opinions of course, including mine.

I remember asking my Thai Teacher about respect in Thailand. He said that you can buy it, or you must earn it.

Since I was born so poor, that if I wouldn't be a boy, I've had nothing to play with, I had asked him how to earn it, and he say:

"With polite rudeness".

surely you know some of them are not joking, some are being malicious, and thats not paranoia, my friends do it and i know their joking, the eyes dont lie.

I once asked my friend's GF -- a recent college grad -- if Thailand had produced a writer culturally equivalent to what Shakespeare is in the English speaking world. I was told that of course Thailand had, but she just couldn't think of any writers at the moment. I then responded that her inability to name such a person proved there wasn't such a person, otherwise s/he would have so much influence and be so famous it would be easy to recall the name. Needless to say, this caused an unintended loss of face.

Given that Shakespeare is one of the most significant artists in WORLD history and he's arguably the sole individual to reach the status he has (as a writer) in thousands of years in the English speaking world, that's kind of silly. ONE country - not Canada, the US, Scotland, Australia - on the whole planet produced ONE writer with that sort of influence and you think the Thais should have to?

And no offense intended but your friend's GF's inability to come up with say Sunthorn Phu is more a sign of a poor education or a very poor memory or a momentary freeze up.

And that anecdote says very little at all about Thais but frankly more about you. (It's not hard to come up with all sorts of anecdotes that reflect poorly on Thais - as no doubt could easily be done about people of my homeland or any other - but this aint one.)

thankyou, i feel like an old man right now.

Well it's all about how you think and not so much about how you look, dont you think.

If you think the way you look makes you happy then fine. IMO

If you call someone else ugly while you yourself think this important to feel happy i would rather use a different quote after being called FAT.

It goes like this. "The more i drink; the better you look" , -- a little bit less direct.
