Has Anybody Had Recent Eye Surgery In Pattaya, And Who By?

Would like to know if anybody has had eye surgery in the Pattaya Area, in particular Cataract Correction, and if so who carried it out and was it successful. research on this subject has proven difficult thus far, getting mixed messages which make me very nervous.

I have been to the Pattaya Eye Clinic, not convinced this is the right place for me.

Not in Pattaya but wife has had cataracts removed and IOL lens inserted for both eyes within the past few months (second three weeks ago) here in Bangkok at Vejthani Hospital by Dr. Chaniya Kulachanpisis at package price of 35k each eye without any issues using hospital operating room.

But in general cataract operations are a very safe procedure. .

You'll get much better value for money in Bangkok, especially at the public (government) teaching hospitals like Ramathibodi and Chulalongkorn.

The doctors will have enough English, not many of the support staff, and you won't have Starbucks and chandeliers in the lobby, but. . .

Anything designed to cater to foreigners will be profit-oriented and therefore IMO inherently dodgy.

This is not really relevant to the OP. Jack-'O-Trades..

Why not? I know I'd be willing to suffer the inconvenience of a short trip for something as important as eye surgery. . .

He asked specifically about the job being done in Pattaya, i just wanted to highlight this.

They are teaching hospitals....you know ..lets try this,.... and if it's wrong????? the OP surely isnt worrying about costs, just a safe place to do

Just done the MIL (Eyes) same reason. Didnt cost a lot and we went to the best hospital I could find here (Bangkok Hospital). everything went well.

That is a strange definition of a teaching hospital.

And if the OP was "I'm trying to find a sweet sincere girl to marry, which go-go bar is the best place for me to look?" would you simply answer the literal question or do you think it would be better to address his false assumption?

I guess the question I must ask in relation to this is, Is your wife Thai or Farang, I am of course referring to the 2 Teir pricing ??

It would be two trips as they only do one eye at a time. For obvious reasons.

There is also a follow up for each i believe to have the dressing removed and the eye checked, so that makes it more complicated if having to travel.

If by car, then you will need a driver, again for obvious reasons.

Just my opinion anyway feel free to ignore, but let's keep things in perspective - it's your eyes people and Bangkok's only two hours away, shuttling back and forth isn't that much trouble and expense. Or make it an extended holiday in Bangkok, if you lived in Cambodia you'd think nothing of it.

If i could find the right Doctor, traveling to BKK would not be an issue, cost is also an issue of sorts because could get done in Australia almost free, but Airfares and accommodation for one month need to be taken into account.

Apparently Dr Somchai at Bangkok Pattaya is a very well respected eye doctor

Yes but he is doing something different than standard cataract surgery and frankly I don't know how to objectively evaluate why people should go for this when most doctors in the world are not using his methods. Or maybe he isn't doing much different and only trying to make it look different with AGGRESSIVE MARKETING to justify higher costs? How can you really tell?

For those considering this, I would suggest first a consultation there and GET DETAILS about exactly what will be done, assuming you are screened as a good candidate. Then I would go to a place like Rutnin in Bangkok and get another evaluation and plan, and ask that doctor what he thinks about the BPH plan in comparison, pros and cons.
