Long Range/directional Wifi?

Featured Replies

Hi

I live high up in a condo block. The condo wifi isnt always good id like a backup. Ive had the idea of getting a long range wifi antenna or something. Id try to find a 3bb signal somewhere or a free hotspot in the city.

I use a macbook

What can i do?

THanks

I was looking for a hi gain antenna on eBay recently and you can get 12db+ for next to no money but they are omni-directional. Better to get a directional one but it means you have to physically move it to hunt for signals.

IMO get a omni first as they were less than 10USD for 12bs if that doesn't work then pay more for a directional.

Off eBay 16db for just over 100thb! or a 20db for 150thb....

Get a Pringle's can:

while you're building it, you can enjoy some crisps and beer.

In several articles of this nature, they found a Dint Moore beef stew can was best, but the Pringle's can will do the job. Use a cheap tripod to keep it pointed in the right direction.

I haven't tried any of their products myself, but I've heard good chatter about Alfa wifi products.

I saw a wireless USB adapter at Fortune for about 900b some months back.
