Did Anyone Hear About ....

... that guy with the ... suppose 'avatar' of a ghostly face in a hood ... best i can describe it. !?? Maybe name 'Dave' ... i think he got a DVT and was trying to deal with that - last time i read. ? Did anyone ever check up on him. ? He was BIG on the correct things to do while flying because .. ... and i didn't hear if he made a full recovery. ??

I would like to know something like that. ?! Scientific and caring ... what can i say. : )

(Also happen to remember that he was extremely articulate ... perhaps why it has 'stuck' with me)

Hi Judecalling ... thanks for thinking of me.

I did the thread, not so much about me ... but to remind everyone who flies regularly, who flies only once in the medium to long haul to mindful of the dangers of DVT and how simply how they can be avoided.

^^ ... since you asked, this is the progress to date.

The stomach injections Clexane 6647131119_0ed8013789_z.jpg lasted for about 10-14 days until the Warfin levels are stabilised and thinning the blood.

After doing this for that period your stomach starts to look like the 'join the dots' game ... Photo+161.jpg... not my stomach!

My 'INR' levels are now at 3 and the goal is to keep them in the '2 - 3' range ... meaning that my blood is less likely to clot ... above the reading of 3 is in the danger zone and in serious danger of internal bleeding because your blood is thin.

You try and keep your diet roughly the same as the green leafy vegetables effect the Warfin levels.

Have to wear the knee high stocking for at least 6 months.

Good to know you're recovering well, David. Do correct me if I've got it wrong, but I seem to recall that that was not your first run in with DVT? In my own case, I'm just coming to the end of a year of treatment with what I hope will be a final blood check and consultation next week. I too had to use a support stocking, but mine was a foot to thigh job, presumably because there was an additional clotting problem close to the groin.

After the initial hospital stay I went on injections of Heparin in the stomach, administered quite painlessly by my wife at home. My understanding is that Heparin (and apparently Clexane), act more or less immediately whilst the change to Warfarin (in tablet form) requires several days and blood checks to get the dosage just so.

What I've not seen mentioned is that Heparin, Clexane or Warfarin are not, of themselves, a cure for the clots. They are to prevent further clots forming whilst, if I've understood correctly, the body's own defences are detailed off to take care of the clot(s) in its own good time and manner. The reason that treatment goes on for so long is that, long after the soreness, swelling and heat of DVT has passed, the clots themselves may remain and are particularly dangerous if they, or a part of them, breaks off and charges through the blood system to the lungs, where a pulmonary embolism occurs. If this happens, and you're a bit unlucky, the PE can kill you. This, of course, is to be avoided.

Given that many of us are either frequent fliers, sedentary by habit or under-hydrated, it's a good thing you brought this matter up. Continue recovery and keep well hydrated.

Interesting ... please do not take aspirin as painkiller for any other complaints .. headache etc - expect you know already. Brilliant news on the INR - pleased for you. : ) Apart from taking a 'cheap shot' at the knee high stockings LOL - hurry up and get better. !

As for me ... things are OK.

I have half my life ahead of me.

I've started back playing squash and have started jogging and regular exercise at the local Park.

The exercise program is not related to the DVT ... it's just that I'm a little heavier because my Thai gf is staying with me now and her food is difficult to say no to.

Thanks for thinking of me ... but it's you guys who fly I think about more.

The simple exercises to do on the plane, drink the water and I'm certainly not going to stop having a few beers when I fly ... it's all about managing what you do.

Cheers

A healthy and recovering

"As for you " : ) glad you are ok .... keep eating that delicious and healthy food - nothing wrong with 'good weight' when you are burning it off.

Great to hear back - thanks.

Richard ... morning sunshine : )

How 'well hydrated' will you keep today. ? Come on ... i would like to know please. ? For an average person it should be 2 ltrs per day .. read a very interesting book lately .. that suggests the 'nasties' we get later in life are due to chronic (ie/ over a long time) dehydration.

As you know its important ... what foods will you eat. ?

I'm interested ... because i am 'nosiness itself' : )

Damn LOL .. and never let me start a thread again ... will be back but away to much to keep up properly. Sorry x
