Best Place To Sell My 2 Year Old Laptop Computer?

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Does anyone know if MBK or Parntip is best place for me to sell my laptop? When I bought my Toshiba Satellite laptop 2 years ago, I bought it with the idea that I want to use it for watching movies (was working on a tropical island then with hardly much to do after hours!). Then I left the job and started travelling. Now after nearly a year of lugging around a full sized lappy in backpacks, I'm ready to just give it up and get a netbook which is lighter.

Except for the screen which needs to be replaced as the LED inside is not working anymore (it flickers and goes all gray/black/dull), this laptop is in a really good condition...almost mint-like really! (I take care of my things REALLY well and can be a bit stingy when it comes to letting others use it haha)

I hope someone can help me with suggestions!

Thanks!

Prices to purchase second-hand computer goods are outrageously high, but I've yet to hear of a shop paying a reasonable amount.

And since the screen costs so much to get repaired, I doubt you could sell it direct.

Try walking around Pantip, and if someone offers you anything over B2,000 I'd take it.

Thanks FunFon. I will try doing that this weekend. 2,000 baht is too low though, hopeful that I can get maybe between 4,000 - 5,000 baht for it.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, I appreciate it! :)

As said the screen is expensive to get fixed, once that goes the laptop is basically worthless.

Sounds like my laptop, Sony a top model and not worth the repair, as would cost more than a good 2nd hand fully working one..

I use it as a spare, as plugged into a Monitor works fine.

Edit: could buy a brand new laptop for the price of repairing my old one........... You don't say which model you have but the Toshiba Satellite start @ 11,000 baht brand new......... even the i5 is a little over 16,000 baht brand new..

Total waste of time if you won't settle for the market rate, just donate it to a poor school or monk at a temple.

That's the selling price for a decent second-hand desktop unit, you're selling something with all the disadvantages of a laptop (can't expand/upgrade, expensive to repair) without the one advantage (portability, since it requires an external monitor.

Plus they don't give sellers more than 30% of the price they'll get for it.

I was being generous about the 2,000, may not even get that.

To replace the screen I was quoted between 3,000 and 3,300 both figures from Fortune Mall (I think, not sure of the name but it's on the Phra Ram 9 MRT line). But I didn't have the time nor enough cash at the time to spend on getting it done and now that I am back in Bangkok for a couple of weeks, I decided that I want a netbook instead as it's more convenient for me. Hence the decision to sell off my laptop!

ignis : My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C640 model.

Anyway, I will walk around Pantip and MBK as well and see what I can get. Thanks everyone for your replies and feedback! :)

Happiness and sudden smiles on faces are much more worthy than a couple of brown papers in the pocket.

I always donated -either here or in Indonesia- my obsolete electronic appliances to some orphanages.

But this gesture is only regarding me... The rest being up2u, of course wai.gif

I see are listed as Brand new, so guess maybe would get 4,000 baht in perfect working order, maybe could trade for a netbook ?

maybe could even get a 2nd hand screen fitted at Pantip ? [No idea as only ever go to Pantip 2,at Nonthaburi or Zeer Ransit past DM airport]

Yes can certainly get it fixed at Pantip, but it's very likely to make more sense economically to purchase a new unit with a proper warranty and keep the old one for spares just in case something else happens to break on the new one, but it's usually the screen that's first to go.

Which is why I always use my notebooks at home with an external monitor, also much better ergonomics - what price your spine?

You can sell in on craigslist or in panthip plaza or mbk.

You'll probably get a better price for it on craigslist though.

You can probably get the screen replaced for about 3,000 - 4,000 baht in panthip. I have done that before.

Just like Phut said, I sold mine on Craiglist to a friendly middle-aged Thai guy. It was easy, I just met him at a BTS station and we did the deal.
