Can someone tell me why your manager persists in playing a Wing Back system when you don't have the players to play that system ?

Oh I don't know... maybe its something to do with winning 33 points out of a possible 39 before yesterday since actually changing to this system ???

Jesus Christ we've been diabolical here. Totally playing into United hands. I can't recall a more alehouse United than this and we're making them look good. Shocking.

Brendon Rodgers got it totally wrong. He starts off with the same system that was exposed at Swansea. So, if Garry Monk could work out how to expose it why on earth would he think that Louis van Gaal wouldn't?

Strange.

I can see why people are blaming the formation now, Its very easy to pick holes in the system after a defeat like that- but the reality is we weren't exactly going to change a system thats been so successful this calendar year just before the Utd game, maybe in a cup game or home against a bottom of the table team.

Could the manager react to what was going on yesterday? - I thought he did by bringing Stevie on - but then the there was that moment of madness from the Captain which you can't account for happened.

There was a periods towards the end of the second half were we pushed up 10 yards and got Sakho bringing the ball out more, and we gave them less time when their defenders were on the ball - same goes even with ten men - they suddenly looked nervous and memento started to go our way, but its needs a collective effort to pull it off from front to back.

The fact is 'no body' showed up yesterday - Moreno had a stinker and was at fault for both goals imo, thats ultimately why we lost (not the system) he's looked good in many other games, We were poor all over the pitch - poor passing, poor positioning, no closing down, no urgency to tackle or get in the oppositions face and and and... The opposition seemed to grow in confidence. They were better man for man yesterday and its as simple as that - we looked nervy and maybe thats what you get with a young side??? they looked more like the bloody homeside and their passing was crisp and direct, they were crucially clinical in front of goal.

Going back to the Swansea game you mention, I thought they (Swansea) were excellent by the way but burned themselves out for all to see, not many teams can keep that kind of quality and intensity for that long and that was by far Swansea's best performance in a long time...

The change of personnel second half made the difference (Gerrard on). Ok the manager had to tweak the system mixing between a diamond from a square midfield etc to compensate for the oppositions tactics but it was still a back three.

Do I think we will stick with a back 3 at Arsenal - I believe we will !

I can't blame the manager, I blame the players. To me it wasn't Untied playing well, nor the now genius LVG's tactics. Those players let United play in their own backyard from the get go. They should have stepped it up and broke it up. The one player I would really single out (aside Gerrard) is Moreno, his Sunday league defense awareness in critical matches has cost us again.

United did us in the first half, but I fully believe that we would have beat them in the second half if we had 11 men on the park. For 45 minutes United could not beat a side with 10 men, we actually looked like getting something. Rodgers changed it up and we would have got something if it wasn't for the moment madness.

Let the United boys believe it is there awesomeness, still a ways to go

The best thing about that match was Rooney's penalty, it did bring a smile and <deleted> you

Brendan...

"We had a 10-game objective that we set. Built into that was that we were not going to win every single game. It's still very much [possible] for us to go where we want to go, which is the top four."

I'll buy that!

It's that old Top 4 thing again biggrin.png

I do admire someone who can see a silver lining in the face of probably the most painful defeat of the season.

Liverpool were generally poor and indisciplined - not something that the great Liverpool teams of the past were renowned for.

Having been turned over at home by an improving, but average Manchester United I think a few people need to a bit more inwardly. The saved penalty was nothing to gloat over - it simply saved the embarrassment of the score being 1 - 3 !

Last year we were hearing a bout a top 1 thing.

.... but that slipped up.

The upcoming away games at Arsenal and Chelsea (+ Southampton and Spurs' easier run in) will determine whether 'top four' is realistic.

Not sure there is a point comparing one match performance with "great Liverpool teams of the past" Why weren't you on here with your opinion when we beat Ctiy the other week?

A smile and <deleted> you is hardly gloating as you interpret, it was justice for the shoulder barge for which the penalty was given. Losing to Aston Villa, and being held by the likes of Hull and Sunderland at home is embarrassing, not 1-3 against 10 men.

Liverpool were on a record breaking run, it was going to come to an end somewhere. I think a few people need to get over it, and maybe themselves.

I think your showing your age when you mention "shoulder barge" Bob, in case you hadn't realized we are now in the 21st century whereby a shoulder barge is now known as a push and if done in the penalty area usually results in a Penalty ! biggrin.png

So both will miss the game at Arsenal. Both could have been very disruptive to our midfield in particular and I would have predicted strong possibility of an injury. Lucas will have to step up to that disruptive plate.

Brendan doesn't deserve that from his players* at such a critical stage in the season.

*except perhaps Baguetelli, since he knew hew was buying an IED. [thought that was one of the better memorable moments when a couple of faithful in the crowd stood out of their seats and wrapped their arms round the big man on the edge of play to stop him suffering a similar fatebiggrin.png ]

Will he get sacked if you finish fifth?

Or sixth or seventh? :D

So he's a lying barsteward as well as a thug I don't believe it was accidental. Look at the anger written on his face after the event - absolutely no hint of an apology to De Gea.

Hope he's banned for the season.

Changes made as a nod to Thailand's libel lawstongue.png
