Charupong's days 'are numbered'
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan is reportedly set to be ousted from the Cabinet soon due to his poor performance, according to a source from the ruling Pheu Thai Party.

Likely candidates to replace Charupong are Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's adviser Bhokin Bhalakula and former interior minister Chidchai Vanasatidya, the source said.

Another source said Yingluck's sister and new MP for Chiang Mai Yaowapa Wongsawat had also showed an interest in the post.

"But the likelihood [of Yaowapa filling the post] is small, because she could draw attacks by opposition parties and critics," the source said.

Since becoming prime minister, Yingluck has reshuffled her Cabinet every six months, with the most recent occurring in October. Apart from the Interior portfolio, other ministerial posts are also expected to see changes.

Thai cabinet ministers are replaced so often theres no logic behind appointing any of them.

Newin Chitchob must be glad he's out of politics. Looks like he's making big money running his football business in Buriram.

Seems to have a few farangs kicking the ball around for him.

Filled a stadium the other night.. .....does he have to pay income tax.?.. dont ask.

Original selection criteria were 'knowledge', 'capabilities', 'potential'. Added later 'suitability'. It looks like none of that guarantees 'performance'. Mind you most of the topic only discusses possible replacements, but no further details on in what aspects and how far performance was lacking.

Another reshuffle to put the best people for the job in the positions ... again.

I'm not sure about the line saying that Yingluck has reshuffled the cabinet every six months, would it not be more accurate to say she was told to make changes and what they would be ?

Isn't the only criteria ... how much money they add to the feeding trough?

It's one of the rules. Once someone rakes in the money, the cards are shuffled and another hand dealt. With all the rigged decks and raising the stakes with taxpayers' money, it surely won't be long before someone lays down a royal flush.

Owing to the chaos and corruption that abounds it is not suprising that some ministers have problems performing, however to get your walking papers after only 6 months indicates that he was either a total failure who should have never been given the position in the first place. or that he does not fit in the Shiniwatra master plan.

There are so many of the current Government who are totally incompotent of doing their job, however ,survival is based on their policical affiliations and not their capability.

Well, that's politics for you.

If you believe in an ideology or set of principles and the strategies and policies you then design and implement, you have to be able to defend them in a coherent and sustained manner.

Wait a minute. Did I just write about ideology and principles and Thai politics in the same sentence?

Oops. Looks like I need another coffee.

I don't give a toss about Charupong , I am amused by the part that says Yaowapa might be attacked by the opposition, what a stupid thing to say, she's a member of the parliament, so she should be under attack, all the time, every time she opens her mouth , the opposition should shut it, someone who has spent five years suspended from entering politics, is a easy target and the Dems should be pursuing this along with nepotism, brotherly, sisterly love subjects.bah.gif

Does this mean we can still say nasty things about her without fear of being slapped with a defamation charge? Dept. PM Pol. Captain Chalerm not yet filtering this for the good of the Nation and democracy specifically?

Why not learn from the best? Make the country a family business like Singapoor. I'm sure LKY will assist with the setup for a reasonable consultingcy fee. C'mon Yingluck, asking for help does not necessary mean loss of face.

if politicians get same severance pays at in the west, than it can be interesting to get a big fat pay day for not doing your job and be appointed into someone else business or committee or whatever to bring in even more cash

Sounds like someone at PTP was getting ahead of themselves.

The one party state isn't here yet.

Charupong was not expected to last long in the job from the outset. There are a lot of guys like that who are mediocre performers but need to be rewarded for loyalty to the boss with a taste of the top job for a few months before retirement. Move aside. You've had your turn and couldn't hold on to the bucking bronco and there's a long queue behind you. This is now a critical time half way through the government's two year term and key issues still need to be resolved such as the boss' ticket home which is a priority for the interior minister and party leader.
