WhizBang
So what's so special about this? I have to get to Mukadan on my own, then get crushed into a 'luxurious mini-van' Unless the trip from Bangkok to Mukadan is included... Pftttt!!!

bangkokstick
Hello, Is is true that all luggages are put in Xray at this border ? So if you had more than 2 bottles of wine inside they would see it and charge you ? I'm asking because we never hear any story from people caught with alcohol but usually only cigarettes (and actually not at this border it seems ?). Any experience ? So 5 bottles of wine should not be a problem :-) Have you checked the duty free shops and/or seen anybody being checked when crossing ? It's good that the van can cross the border and go to airport or bus directly ? Thank you again.

Yes they do xray the luggage, I will let you know the result later today as I will be coming back from just doing a trip there, I bought 1 bottle of makers mark and a bottle of lea and perins sauce, so i will have two bottles, i will have them in my bag, not the duty free carry bag so we will see what they say when it goes through the xray. swissie
Be careful of the 'ladies' working in the casino The whole package is an excellent value. The ladies working FOR the casino are of no danger. The ladies working IN the casino are of no danger also. = Old and ugly! Cheers.

Well, they didn't care about 2 bottles in my bag going through the xray machine or even ask, i could have left my bag in the van, but wanted to see what would happen, I could have left a whole case in the van. 2020
Hmmm I don't need to do visa runs, but I would consider this just for vacation, seems like nice trip to Laos... There are only two types of people there. The people gambling and the people doing visa runs. Even to the uninitiated, both types stick out like a sore thumb in the place! I recently got my visa done there as I let my the previous one expire, it was so easy it was boring! But better than CNX Immigration/ extensions any day. And a word of warning, it is NOT for cheap charlies. If you have the time and can be bothered with paperwork/ immigration officers etc then this is not for you. So unless you have business to do there it is quite a bore, a fair distance from town with not much else happening. I cracked on with some work as the internet was very good, good enough for skype/ conference calls etc. I do recommend the massage service, both the free one offered as part of the package and I then went back for the head to toe. Man, totally relaxed! One disappointment though, no one was there to meet me at the airport or drive me to the casino. But being well travelled, I passed through immigration without a problem plus I knew it wouldn't be long before someone rang a taxi on my behalf and said there is a fat/ white/ man in a suit at the airport by himself. Sure enough, after about 8 minutes I was taken straight to the casino without any bother. Also if you are newly married and want a baby, this is the place to go as there is literally nothing else to do. I recommend and will be there again for sure. 2020

I just got a non imm b single there with no problems, but my accountant knows whats required and i went papers in hand ready, didn't need to ask them for anything, although the first time i went there i did ask Nang the person who handled my booking and her info was spot on and matched the accountants, its basically the same paperwork that is shown on the Vientiane Thai Consulate website for all the visas, all in all a very smooth process, apart from the yellow bus back that had a horrible transaxle whine on throttle, sounded nearly as bad as my ex wife. Yes agree about the paperwork... its basically the same paperwork that is shown on the Vientiane Thai Consulate... Vientiane Thai Embassy do have different rules on issuing Visa's, then Savannakhet Thai Consulate,, same as are many other Countries Embassies and Consulates around the world... The real question is would you book with Savan Vegas, if she tells you NO you cannot get that Visa ? yet you know you can with no problem.? Neeranam
Hmmm I don't need to do visa runs, but I would consider this just for vacation, seems like nice trip to Laos... Here are the room rates in Thai Baht Why would anyone pay those prices? There are so many deals out there. I'm thinking of going with one of the free nights PLUS free money to spend at the casino. For example 999 baht for travel from Khon Kaen and you get 1000 baht vouchers AND free nights. Edited May 25, 2013 by Neeranam
PREM-R
I recently used Savan Vegas for a visa run, unlike some, I had no problems getting replies to my emails when I first contacted them and they sent me a confirmation email of my package straight away. Price was 1,999 baht (pay in cash on arrival at hotel + 1,000 baht deposit) for one night inclusive of buffet vouchers (2 people) for lunch, dinner on the first day and breakfast, lunch on the second day. Visa application was dealt with at check-in at the hotel, passport and new visa to be returned by 3.00pm next day. I did not have to go to the Thai consulate in Savannakhet. Check-out time was 3.00pm so we had access to the room until we were leaving. Everything ran smoothly, I would use the service again.
