I still have trunks full of gold and cash waiting for me in several airports over the whole world smile.png

I 'only' have to transfer a couple of hundred dollars and these trunks are all mine....

Is there someone in TV who wants to help me with these trunks filled with millions of dollars?!?cheesy.gif

My standard answer is normally: "So sorry, but I am short of cash at the moment. Please advance the money (just 300 US$ or so), and I will pay you back 100 times the amount, if the trunk contains what you say it contains" (((Hey, what is 30,000 US$ if I get 35 Million dollars?!? I am a generous guy))) Normally there is no more reply after that tongue.pngcheesy.gif

I'm pretty sure the sick buffalo that I'm having taken care of in Roi-et is a genuine and deserving case. Posted Image

What a sad comment. You really need to widen your circle of friends and aquaintances.

There is a reason this scam works so well on the thais, Its easier to scam greedy people.

That why so many westerners get scammed by Thai "ladies"?

Hi Jules

I want to be your friend, if you need some money to help you get your suitcases just withdraw what you need - my Bangkok Bank account is 0172-443-38767-8. i hope you'll remember who your friends are when you retrieve the gold! Err, sorry suitcases

She was 'well educated', I beg to differ.

I would think that someone can be well educated, and ignorant about many subjects, including about scammers. Combined that with a bit of naivety, and you get a black guy with a wide open smile...

I know some of us also get scammed sometimes by our true love here in LOS. And it is despicable when anyone gets scammed. Us or them. It is easy to judge people and say, money is god, stupid is as stupid does, greed and so on. But I look at the other side of the coin. Most of us want the same thing in life. A nice family and happiness until we depart this world. As we know poverty has a lot to do with decisions people make. I have no idea the level of education of this lady and it really doesn't matter. She was duped into believing she would have a better life. Of course there were red flags that either she didn't notice or ignored. And she was new to the Internet.

How many of us have had a high pressure salesman come to our door and convince us to buy something that we really didn't need? I think we need to lighten up, be a little more understanding and give our fellow man a break when they go through bad times.

Just my thoughts.

I do so agree with your sentiments. Its so easy for people to be taken in or pressured by these clever (yes, they are clever at what they do) con artists. I've seen many educated decent people taken in by these plausible characters - in private and business life. Some people have real difficulty in understanding that not all social medla users are honest people with good intentions. Wether it's LinkedIn, FB or email or chats, there is a need to be very careful. Normal people get caught, not always because they are greedy, lustful or stupid - but because the conmen criminals and perverts that prey on them are skillful.

Western Union even post a warning about sending money to Philippine ladies because so many Americans have been conned and complained. The people who get robbed or exploited deserve empathy at least, not ridicule or condemnation.

A Thai man once said "I'll make you all rich in six months".

The ensuing stampede to be part of this scam is now known the world over.

If it looks too good to be true it usually is, no one ever gives you anything for free you always have to pay.

Never been scammed by them myself but i,m sure if i were so inclined it would be easy to scam them.

How easy it is to scam the greedy. She should be in jail for attempting to launder money. Zero sympathy

If an offer sounds to good, it normally is. However, the sight of easy money and greed makes one loose his clear mind.

I still remember the front office manager at my lawyer’s office. One day, some years ago, he came with big Xmas lights lit in both eyes and told me about the 25 million bath, he was going to make in commission on a property deal. A small resort next to me was up for sale for 90 million and he was just about to close an overpriced deal with a Saudi prince for 115 million – Leaving 25 million in his pocket. Congratulation, I was a bit curious, being a coming neighbor, so he told me that the Saudi prince was going to use it for private recreation.

About half a year later I asked him about the deal: »You know what?« he said: »It was one that so-called Nigerian scams.«

I dated a delightful ThaiLoveLinks 36yo PrachuapKiriKhan Uni educated woman a couple years ago. I liked her but not to the point of us staying together but we stayed friends.

She had one girl in Uni near BKK and she came to stay with me many times in BKK.

When with me I'd let her use my xtra laptop to check her ongoing TLL love stories and offer my comments and advice.

Was she ever bombarded with - obvious to me but not to her initially- scam stories !!

Gifts being sent to her, a guy staying at 5* Jomtien Hotel (of all places !!), a handsome youngish white SAfrican father with a lovely boy in need of a new mother, a guy who sent a scan of his outdated e-ticket to ... HRW !! to show he was coming, and on and on ...

She was terribly disappointed after I explained to her that all these potential hits on TLL were from fakes who were just planning to con her later of money but she trusted me and never let these 'romances' progress to the 'send money' stage.

She'd never dream of faking her profile on TLL to cheat somebody and it was hard for her to have to face the ugly fact that there is such garbage guys around.

She was not "greedy" or stupid - she was just a lonely, bored divorcée living with her father in their plantation who wanted some late love she could no longer hope to get from Thai suitors.

Last year she hit with a 50+ German who had never been to LOS and who came soon to meet her and her dad in November, got her a quick visa and they got married in Germany on last December 21.

The guy seems well off, nice house, good job. They plan already to come live in LOS when he retires.

To be fair Thais are just the latest in a long line of nationalities who have fallen for this type of scam. They will always find suckers who will fall for this until the amount of publicity around them becomes all persasive. When it does they move on, I still remember when people in the UK fell for this sort of scam. Now whether anyone back there would ever fall for the current rice scam/scheme is another matter.

It's hard to have sympathy here....

Unless of course the victim was a farang !

Then all sympathies would be pouring in left, right and center !!

The huntress gets captured by the game, makes a change.

I once asked a colleague about giving money to his girl up north. I asked if a sick buffalo was involved...he said no - the buffalo 'ran away' lol

Back on topic, its not a one way street as Thai women are also scammed by foreigners...

Rarely. as they don't have much, if anything, to scam.

Perfect country to scam, their greed is bigger than their sense... clap2.gif

It's gonna be hard lessons, hard and expensive lessons cheesy.gifclap2.gifcoffee1.gif

Laugh is.........she probably scammed some foreigner to get the 200,000 baht.

Several years ago I was contacted by one of these scam artists saying they had millions of pounds they needed to get out of the UK and offering me half of the amount if I would help them. Knowing it was a line of crap I said sure and they sent me a legitimate looking check asking that I cash it at my bank and then send them several thousand pounds so they could fly first class and meet me to get their share.

The check was bogus- I am sure- so I waited a couple days for them to call and ask me what happened. I told them I had cashed the check and felt very lucky so I went to the casino and gambled the whole amount on the roulette wheel but lost it all. Needless to say, they were not happy. I stalled them for a couple days when they became threatening over the phone so I told them I had taped the call and forwarded it to the police who were in the process of hunting them down.

Got a real laugh out of the "outrage" one of the scam artists had over my dishonesty. In the end I told them to <deleted> off and if they had a problem to look me up and they could present their argument to my pistol. It was great fun goofing on them.

I'm not sure who is laughing harder, Thai guys or foreigners. cheesy.gif
