webfact
Accused aunt denies prostitution chargesThe Nation on SundayThe court has allowed police to detain a woman who allegedly lured her 17-year-old niece into prostitution in South Korea.BANGKOK: -- Police did not oppose her release on bail, however, the woman is still in Central Remand Prison, Bang Khen waiting for a bail application, which will be made on Tuesday, Lt-Colonel Chusak Apaipak of the anti-human trafficking police, said yesterday. He said her relatives had been to visit her but they needed time to prepare property documents to use as bail collateral.Meanwhile, 20 witnesses needed to be investigated, police said. The Criminal court has allowed police to detain Piengjai Kim, 37, a Roi Et native, for 12 days from May 25 to June 5, while the attorney-general assigns investigators to lead the case, said Chusak. The niece was rescued on May 17 from a massage parlour in Seoul, a few days after she sent a request for help via Facebook. The rescue was carried out in a joint operation between Thai and South Korean police. The girl was allegedly persuaded by Piengjai in December to work as a masseur and to provide sex for customers. When she first refused, her aunt allegedly took the side of the massage parlour, which then forced her to provide sexual services. She secretly used Facebook via a mobile phone to contact her friends in Thailand so they could contact police.Piengjai flew back to Thailand on Thursday and reported directly to investigators. She was charged on five counts, including human trafficking and forcing a person under 18 years old into prostitution. She has denied all the allegations. Her brother, who is the girl's father, earlier told police that his daughter made up the story so that she could return to Thailand.-- The Nation 2013-05-

cup-O-coffee
If her father said she made up the story so she could return to Thailand, and if the father and his family are willing to put their property on the line to bail out the wicked aunt, then it begs the question: "Why did the family not put their property on the line to get her home, and forego this obvious charade?" To be labeled as conspirators, in my view, by opening the coffers after the fact makes their pleas of ignorance and innocence in this matter ludicrous. Moreover, it strongly suggests another story of the girl being sold by her own greedy kindred for <place debt obligation occupation here> and for her to perform until the debt is paid and also to be expected to send any excess funds back home, or else she will be disowned. They do not have enough money, loving-kindness or understanding for their own daughter or niece when she cries rape whilst in a foreign country, but apparently they have the money, loving-kindness and understanding when Auntie cries injustice. Bestial!
A Member
Will be interesting to see who is telling the truth here. Will the 20 witnesses provide details? What a story, the best script writers in Hollywood would be pushed to get anywhere near this amount of intrigue. I'm sure there will be a final version of this sometime but what's the bet it won't necessarily be the truthful one ?
ratcatcher
How long time did the Red Bull heir spend in detention awaiting the court to decide his bail-request?? Good question, but remember, this lady is accused of luring her niece into providing naughty massage services in Seoul. Serious stuff. OTOH the young Red Bull heir only drove his Ferrari at 3 times the speed limit within city limits while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, then hit and killed an on-duty policeman, left the scene of the crime and then tried to deny culpability. It's really all a matter of priorities. Isn't it?

Beetlejuice
Two questions: The girl was allegedly persuaded by Piengjai in December to work as a masseur and to provide sex for customers. Persuaded, how? How and why did the niece end up in South Korea and what was her intentions for being there? Cannot make any assumptions at this time until if and when more details of this case are released.
