I saw a dentist two or three times a year back in the States, and never was told I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed. Now, after 8 months in Thailand, I suddenly "need" to have two extracted. I always receive good care at Bangkok/Pattaya Hospital, but it seems they are inclined to overprescribe medicine and perform unnecessary procedure. I am not totally convinced that I need to have these teeth removed. Did some searching on the Internet and it seems that wisdom teeth removal can be a big scam. I have cancelled my appointment and will see another dentist at a different facility to get a second opinion. Anyone know a reputable dental clinic in town?

Also, my wife needs some dental/orthdontic work done, possibly braces. I do not know if I can trust B/P totally. I don't mind paying the baht, but don't want to be ripped off with unnecessary procedures. Whom can I trust for orthodontic work here in Pattaya?

Thanks for your help!

On the East side of Suhkemvit next door to the 7/11 just before soi nernplubwan. Very reasonable prices. 300 baht for teeth cleaning. My wife is having a root canal. BPH wanted 20,000 baht. She is having it done for 7500 baht including the crown.

I used this place on Central three times in the last two years, no problems!

DENTAL CARE CENTER

418/13-14 M.9 Central Pattaya Rd. Tel. (038) 720079.

You can speak to them and see if they meet with your approval.

One time I had a bad gum infection, they could have screwed me but they took the obligatory cheap xray - just to make sure - and gave me some meds. Everything okay in a couple of days. Another time I had a shattered tooth, they built it up to save the base - still works good. Last time was a simple deep filling. Paid around $7 for the filling, it's at least $50 in the states. At $7 for a filling I could have it re-done several times and still not match the back home price.

Thanks for the help, guys. Anyone had any experience, firsthand or otherwise, with a decent orthodontist in the Pattaya area? Like I said, my wife may need braces.

This doesn't answer your question but may serve as a warning about another over-prescriber. I tried the new(ish) posh-looking clinic in Naklua Road - way down near Naklua food market. They did a reasonable job (if you accept as reasonable knocking out a filling during the cleaning process which then had to be replaced immediately), and they recommended all sorts of additional and unnecessary work. I got a second opinion whilst visiting the UK, and the dentist there said there was nothing at all to be done. I'd be very wary.

As you say, it's not just the cost, it's the procedures themselves you want to avoid. Having wisdom teeth out ain't fun. I know, I had a couple removed ages ago. My mouth was too small, allegedly. :o
