Something that has always bugged me for years now . Some news worthy incident will occur, be all over the media for a week or so, then maybe someone has been apprehended and the police parade of twenty police will all line up behind the arrested person and something will be said...... then ...... poof the story goes to sleep and gets swept under the carpet.

I would like others to use this thread , if you so like, to pull out from under the carpet , incidents that have magically been swept there and are not yet finished...... Many of you know of many of these items, I'm sure.

I would like to start off with one.

The Music Police goings on of a couple months ago.

Much was said of this gang going around and extorting monies from business' , if they did not have a so-called music license that satisified them.... The police were alerted and even though one of the police stations was being used, the police claimed to know nothing of the matter. Well after a lot of hull-a-ba-loo the gang was arrested and stories were written on both this forum and in other media.

The gang was bailed out and then....................................... ?????/

To paraphrase Paul Harvey, I would now like to know the rest of the story. What happened next, if anything? They extorted millions..... so what happened ...... are they now in jail or what....???

Anyone like to contribute, to this or other incidents from under the carpet? Looking at the carpet , there are many, many bumps

Good idea problem being there are so many a person kind of gets immune to them.

We know they are hot news at the moment and that they will be a thing of the past next week so we kind of forget about them.

Thanks for the update as far as you could go with the music police I had given up on them before they got arrested.

How about the group of I believe it was 5 musicians with no work permit just jamming at a bar. The last I heard one of them was wanted for some thing else.

The last that I heard the fake music police were operating in Pattaya again. They have been moving around the country when things get hot for years. If I remember correctly, they were arrested in Pattaya long before Chiang Mai (there is an old YouTube video of them in the Pattaya police station). I hope that they don't try it again in Chiang Mai, but would not be surprised if they did.

Red Bull's grandson cop killer......more locally, CMU LLI scandal from 2010.......numerous bus crashes.....the disappearance of the food carts on MM........

If I were to run a bar, I would strictly use www.archive.org Listen all you want, just don't sell it. 2200 Dead Shows +/-. Or even Youtube....not copyright protected. There is some good CCR; in case you haven't heard it 50,000 times already at JP.

How about the 93 year old Australian and the issue with underage girls which might, or might not have been nothing but a set-up to extort him ? Is he still alive ? Where is he now ?

Didn't City Life Magazine (Pim) get action moving on this case.Seem to remember the ringleader was arrested, bailed and did a runner which is fairly normal practice.

...and what happened to the class action being taken by a large group of would-be volunteer teachers at a certain university?

there was considerable debate on these pages on the matter, but apparently ceased due to the libel laws of this country.

Gonzo, I like your post and like you I have wondered what happened in many of the cases. However I think you have answered your own question they have been swept under the carpet never to be heard from again.

I take responsibility for not being clear enough in my OP, but I was looking for more that on a Chiang Mai or at least Thailand connections

Not taking away from your detailed efforts, Suradit69, which is important to some, but do you have similar details on any more locally related carpet bumps?

The last that I heard, the fellow who owns Pickles restaurant was re-arrested a few months ago for violating his bail conditions for the murder charge. Has anyone heard if he has gone to trial yet?

I wonder if CMU LI is still accepting Visa Card payments. I think a lot of the volunteer (suckers) were making claims with Visa to get their money back.

sounds a good idea. let's see: return air fare to CM $550.00 visa fee $250 CMU fee $600 whistling.gif

Last I heard there were 600+ of us suck... err volunteers.

Speaking of Downtown Inn, that Canadian Massage didn't last very long. Seemed kind of an idiotic name for a business in Thailand. There's too many Canadians, but not that many. Also, that German place across the street with the very expensive 30 cl glasses of beer, did it finally bite the dust? And that place if you keep going to where LK ends, and make a left, that even had the sign up for shower massages, looks like they closed down. That place had been there a long time.

I'll give you all credit, though. You did know that you wouldn't make anything teaching in the North, so you might as well volunteer. But, you must have a work permit to volunteer. Actually it seems like "Dr, K" was outed a few years before, and since they were TV sponsors............

The hotel closed or the shower massage place? The hotel was around forever, but I got the idea that the soapy massage was pretty new.

the hotel was demolished. The massage plaxe had been there for years, but I had never noticed the shower massage sign before. Unfortunately, it looked shuttered.

Yes, I was told on arrival that my E visa would not allow me to teach! the very reason for volunteering to teach English in the first place. I was offered a Thai course for a further $100.00, but dropped out after 2 months and returned to Oz.

I'm now living here in CM, about to do my visa bits to allow retirement.

Question ?

Before you started out did someone tell you that to teach all you needed was an E Visa, or was that an assumption?

I often wonder about these stories as well, hot topics for a week then nothing. Usually goes quiet after the police apprehend them, never any news on actual justice.

One that I would really hope to hear about is those two monsters that burned the little girl slave. Seems incredible they are seemingly making no effort to catch them.

Anyway, the important news is that she has learnt to smile again. That's great.

What about the cop murderers? Sentenced to death, given bail and never heard from again. Is the Aunt whistleblower dead yet?

I was told that the case was to be abandoned last Monday due to his ill health, I was told by someone very close to the case that he was suffering from dementia and couldn't follow proceedings. Another member then reported that Australian media confirmed the case was abandoned on Monday but the reason given was his terminal prostrate cancer.

He was apparently bailed. Now I agree with Gonzo, you would have thought there would have been some degree of follow up from the Thai based English language media to a story like this.
