Presidential Elections Begin in Iran

TEHRAN, June 14 (RIA Novosti) - Over 60,000 polling stations opened across Iran on Friday as the Islamic Republic votes in its 11th presidential elections.

The vote is due to end at 18:00 local time [13:30 GMT]. About 50.5 million people out of Iran’s population of some 75 million are eligible to vote, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called for a high voter turnout. According to Iranian media forecasts, the turnout will be above 60 percent, about 25 percent less than during the 2009 polls.

Iranian citizens abroad will be able to cast their ballot at 290 polling stations in 96 countries.

A runoff will be held on June 21 if none of the candidates gathers more than 50 percent of the vote. Recent opinion polls indicate that the runoff is likely.

Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said on Thursday his ministry, charged with security and organizing issues, was absolutely prepared for the polls.

Thailand was not included in the countries surveyed by Pew, but the current, outgoing president's visit to Chiang Mai recently doesn't help Thailand's image in the world.

Ahmajiedad is also hugely popular in Africa and Latin and central America, two huge continents. When he visited Africa recently he was treated like a rock star. Bizarre! Maybe it's because he refuses to bend over for Uncle Sam! The same reason why the late Hugo Chavez was respected just about everywhere apart from the US and their lackey's. The vast majority of Western people are retarded when it comes to the United States, subcultural. Your are convinced you know us, but you don't know beans. You deal in intellectual clichés, stereotypes, cultural glibness and the mundane.

What, are we supposed to put resources into Africa and Latin America to conduct an "education" campaign, or attack style politics into a continent and a subcontinent, not to mention the isthmus of Central America? In Central America most governments recognize the Republic of China in Taiwan as the one and only China. That's not too shabby on our part, much closer to home, especially concerning the Panama Canal.

The governments of the African countries, which control the media, condition their populations while they steal them blind. Some of the S American subcontinent is experiencing a leftist phase right now - however, as much as I disliked Margaret Thatcher, she spoke truth that socialism fails when they run out of other people's money. Witness western Europe which has enjoyed generations of spending other people's money and now have found they've put themselves in a pickle. And worse yet, refuse to face the consequences. Germany was always going to dominate Europe, sooner or later, one way or another.
