I'm absolutely sure this has been answered before, but you'll have to forgive me for not being able to locate the answer. tongue.png

I am a 28 year old American, and will be flying from the U.S to Thailand on a double-entry tourist visa in August. The embassy did not require me to prove onward travel, so I just have a one-way ticket to Thailand. (Of course, I have the money in my account for a return ticket home or elsewhere). My question is, can I arrive in Thailand with just a one-way ticket on a double-entry tourist visa? I didn't know if Immigration at the airport would require me to prove onward travel. I will be taking a bus into Laos rather than flying, so I just don't want to buy an extra ticket to prove onward travel if I don't need to.

Thank you for any information! wai.gif

If you have a visa you do not have to show onward travel to the airline in US or to Thai Immigration.

Correct, no need for prof for onward travel if you have a visa.

Agree with all said, but want to add a bit.

Leaving from the USA, a one way ticket is rather a red flag.

The airport agents there should know there is no problem because you've got a visa, but there are sometimes human factors meaning you MIGHT be questioned.

Just be prepared with your story and if for some reason they don't know, YOU know there is no problem at the entering Thailand end not having a ticket out.

The point I'm making is that there is absolutely no problem at all for you ENTERING Thailand, but there is a small chance you might encounter some flak while boarding in the U.S.

I am not suggesting you should worry about this but I am saying don't be totally shocked if the issue of your one way ticket is brought up at your boarding in the U.S. I don't think it's really necessary but if you want some more reassurance, you might call your AIRLINE with your plan, one way ticket with a Thai visa and ask them to tell you the official policy on that.

Thank you for that bit as well! If that occurs, I will just be sure to let them know my plans for onward travel (via bus) and my ability to purchase a ticket home. Hopefully this will keep them from pestering me further haha

What the airlines are sometimes worried about, and they have a right to be worried, are passengers who they think might have a problem being allowed entry into the country they are flying to. Because then they'd have to fly you back. So their concern is selfish. They should have the information on their screen that having a visa is adequate if they don't know already.

One area of concern, not pertaining to the one way ticket is why did you get the visa so early. It is still June and you are not using your first entry until August. Both entries must be made prior to the "must enter by" date on the visa. If the visa is valid for 6 months probbly OK, but is only 3, you've wasted a lot of time.

Thanks for your concern, but we don't actually have the visas yet. I've just spokent ot the lady at the embassy a ton and already know what I'll be getting when it comes time. Of course, I will wait until just a couple weeks before leaving to get my visa to maximize time.
