Emergency Vet Available Via Phone?

Featured Replies

does anyone know of a vet that i might call for advice in treating pets? there is phangan animal care here but for instance today they are closed and i have a problem. besides they are useless to me since i am across the island. certain things i can probably treat myself, but for some reason i can't find much info on the internet about treating injuries etc. for pets. my dog has bleeding testicles after a big fight today.

I can give you the phonenumber of my vet in Chaweng here on Koh Samui:

Samui Animal Hospital tel. 077-413313, mobile 0 5068 9020

Office hours: mon.-sun. 9.00 am - 8.00 pm

Vets: Utit Kamwut & Sasiwimol Puthkhiew

Good luck with your dog!

Girlx you can call the owner of the Dog Rescue Centre Samui,

Tel: 0066 77 413 490 or 0066 1 893 94 43

The lady Brigitte should be able to give you some good advice and the vet is great there too.

Good luck with your poor pooch.

thanks for the info!

Hey Girl X,

When I lived on TNP I broke up dog fights everyday. What I kept on hand for the dogs I treated was:

Latex gloves

A flushing bulb to flush out puncture wounds.

Saline solution

Batidine

They have the cheaper version of the Batidine at the pet store in Thongsala, but it stains your hands, so buy some gloves if you go that route.

Soak and flush out the wound every day. Mix warm water w/ the batidine for this. Then apply straight batidine to the wound with cotton. Keep him out of the sea if you can and is he goes in rinse him with fresh water right away.

You know the white lab who walks in the water looking for fish? You should have seen how bad his back got after and big fight and no one kept him out of the sea. He got really bad and finally someone took him to the vet and kept him tied up till he could heal.

yeah she is still in the water every day and has horrible skin problems sometimes... a lady from ireland was taking care of her for awhile. i do have betadine etc. here already but i could use a good veterinary manual or something! there is a link to the merck manual online (in the pets thread) but i think i will actually look for a book to order so i can have it on hand. my good friend's dog died today because all her babies were deformed and dead inside her and became toxic. :o we buried her today in the middle of a huge rainstorm. moral of that story is do not give your dogs the depo injections to help her abort her puppies (i didn't do this, in fact i admonished the thai lady not to do it before she went ahead and did it anyway). sigh. we really really could use a real vet around here so if anyone knows any send them on down, i will buy them an arrival drink and show them around!

You know what you could do is call PAC and find out when the Vet will be there or go over to Samui and talk to the Vet on the ring road or go to Samui dog resque. Tell them you want a book that will help you with taking care of the dogs out there. The other thing to do is go and help out once a week at PAC, you will learn a lot.

I have done volunteer work at many wildlife centers and have been able to apply a lot of that to the dogs. Volunteering at PAC is on my "to do" list for next year.

I think I mentioned this before, but if you could just get some of the Thai to get thier bitches fixed, it would help out so much. We have all of the females on Had Tien fixed now except one that we can't catch.

cheers

yeah i am trying really hard to get PAC to come to thong nai pan and spay the girl dogs! they might actually do it this month! unfortunately, i don't have time to go volunteer there, but i do try to spread the word.

PAC was just over there, about a week ago. I know because I took my dog in and was told they were over in TNP.
