Replace fan belt(s)

Featured Replies

Hi, have a Mitsubishi grandis and think need to replace some or all of the belts. Was wondering what the price of this would be?? Would like a ball park figure before i go into the garages. It does squealing sometimes when but the accelerator down and the check engine light is coming on sometimes. Any advise answers would be be most helpful thanks.

If they squeal under power then they might just need adjusting. Go to the longest stretch of the belt, it should have about half inch of ''play'' when you push it in and out. .

Problem is with belts once they start to squeal, because they are loose, they get glazed and lose grip so squeal more and get more glazed. It is a downward spiral. The main culprit here in Thailand is the AC belt. TIP: if the belts are squealing. Don't turn on the AC until the car is moving and the engine is off idle. The driving pulley momentum will overcome the inertia in the compressor.

If you are handy you can get some temporary reprieve by rubbing a piece of ordinary household soap on the belt(s) but be careful not to loose any fingers! Aerosol Industrial belt dressing is available here but it seems anything in an aerosol is expensive here, relative to the permanent fix.

Belts are cheap and so is the labour.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ..... just fix it and ponder that if you think it cost to much after you look at the bill.

It is 11 years old, cheers for the advise. Mr real deal very enlightened.

Cost just over 1200 for all new belts on a 2500cc motor, was a well national garage so could probably get it cheaper. Cheers

Your complaining about paying 1200 baht for a job...which would have cost = to 6000 baht in falang country?

On my old 2005 Colorado I had all 3 belts done for Bt.1100 at my local somchai garage.

Yes BSJ as you can see from my post I am complaining a lot, just giving people a heads up. I use ACT auto care and tire, which is a national garage which adds a few baht on I think, I do realise in western countries it would be more expensive as cost of living in these places is more. Also well done on your Thai, Falang country, beautiful mix of English and Thai really emphasizes the point of my endless complaining,
