went to siracha yesterday

thought i would have the car washed whilst in robinsons

so went the the national chain one in the adjacent multi storey

as soon as i get out the car a worker dives in and pulls the hood

i watched him carefully whilst gathering my things

he starts to pull out the dipstick, at which point i said whoa!

he said have to check oil

i said are you a mechanic?,

he says no

i say well get out of there then

i close the hood

he says the engine need cleaning!

i say no thank you

off he goes

i say to cashier how much inside/ outside?

they say 440

i say show me price list

it said 350 on price list

so i say why 440

they say XL car 400 and 40 for special wheel clean

i said do you clean wheels when you do clean ?

they say yes

i say why i need special clean then for 40 baht more?

they say use special chemical clean wheel

i say you decide what i want then?

she say be good for your wheel

i say no thank you

so price go down to 350

she say pay now

i say i will pay after

she say company say have to pay now

i say if no good clean you give money back?

she say no, cannot

i say good bye

just another day in paradise

Just trying to upsell you on some extras...big whop. Why not just save money, get some exercise, and wash the car yourself...then you won't have to interact with those darn dishonest Thais!

Up selling means telling you why it's a good idea to have it. Then you decide.

What they do at the car wash places ( I'm presuming the yellow one) is blatant bullshit.

I really don't know, the car washes I see charge 150-200 baht...I have never used those hi-so car spas that charge 400-500. If I wanted to pay those prices, I could have stayed in America.

If this is the same chain as by Homeworks and CF, I find they do a superior job but if it is worth the premium costs is questionable.

In some areas you are not allowed to wash cars yourself.

Water management!!??

up selling on the wheel clean and possible engine clean is one thing, upgrading my car to an XL and overcharging is another

it was the red firm by the way

i normally pay that myself but i thought on this occasion i would have it done whilst shopping

if i have to wait for it, i find myself wandering off and spending more than the car wash to kill the time

the mobile car wash on the Darkside was so good

i miss them

I use a hosepipe and some elbow grease. Problem solved ;)

Benefits are that you leave any dirt or wax behind, only you to blame.

One of my neighbours washes his car in the street every time it rains. He even wears his wife's shower cap to keep his hair dry!!

555+ Who is anyway stupid enough to pay 500 thb for a high pressure wash that will kill your painting ?

For this price I expect they lick the car to clean it !

Maybe he can't be arsed washing it himself, maybe nowhere to do it, maybe he can't be bothered buying soap / hose pipe / cloths etc.

He asked about a service provided, it was the standard Thai BS so he left - good man!

I get my cars done for about 200 baht each, they pick them up and drop them off - good enough for me ( minimal interaction with the "darn dishonest thais" so result all round ).

Normal price car wash 150-200 THB, inside, outside.

More is a waste of moneywink.png

you are right of course

i was prepared to pay more so i did not have to sit and wait for it to be done

didn't work out though, there's only so much one can take for the sake of expedience
