I am slowly getting tired. Not only are they changing their schedules every day of the week. But worst of all is that when you call their hotline they are simply in denial. I was asking them today why on a weekday the trains are running every twenty minutes even in rush hour. They had no answer for that and simply said that is plenty enough. I mentinoed that during rush hours hundreds que up at the stations which they simply shrugged off. Why cant they give some precious info even if its just for courtesy? If they tell customers that there is an out of order I have no problems, but this pretending that nothing is wrong while hundreds waiting to get into trains.

Reason is that due to a defect they could not run as many trains, meaning they had to drop the frequency to 20 minutes, and also cancel a bunch (or all) Express Line departures.

Read it somewhere this morning, but I'm not going to hunt down the link.

The issue with hotline staff not being able to answer a question stands, of course.

As an aside, if I was SRT I'd cancel the Express Line completely and just run city lines, as frequent as possible.

Headways are supposed to be 15 min during peak times (06:00 - 09:00 and 17:00 - 20:00), and 20 min. at all other times.

But they may not have enough functional rolling stock to support the 15 min. headways - lots of premature wearing of components, esp. brushes supposedly due to issues with the tunnel design at the airport.

IMLE, platform crowding at Phaya Thai means it takes a long time for people to exit the train, before people can enter so dwell times and the schedule suffer.

OK if genuine stand corrected my apologies.

And not leave the country but I did say

just take a taxi.

I'll leave my comment about gratitude though, my point is that there are a few things - just a few - in this country that actually are world-class, even better than back at home, and the BTS/MRT network I think is one of them, absolutely amazing they were able to get these in place and a huge improvement over the old days.

The ARL is not part of the BTS/MRTA network.

The ARL is not worldclass in any remote way .

It is an accident waiting to happen, via platforms overcrowding at rush hour .

After less than 3 years of operation the track is starting to fall to pieces and major track components have to be retrofit in a big hurry .

Add to that the absence of maintenance by SRT and you have the perfect equation for a disaster in the making .

Now feel free to keep burying your head in a sand of Thai holiness .

Thanks for the information, that's what these forums are for - but do you really have a need to take such a nasty tone?

And looks to me like Siemens needs to take some responsibility, the problems you're talking about don't seem to have been caused by Thai decision-making.

Siemens subcontracted the trackwork to a shoddy chinese subcontractor who has long left Thailand, so of course Siemens will eventually be responsible for this mess.

The longer interval between trains is not only because of lack of rolling stock , but also because they had to reduce revenue speed , because of all the track issues.

Sorry if I offended you with my direct tone, but after almost 20 years in this country, I know better than to play the Thainess card.

"Airport Cityline clueless as usual" according to the OP. Today is a holiday, at least a bankholiday, so maybe, just maybe the Cityline was running on their holiday-scedule. Leaving who clueless??whistling.gif

As for calling any hotline for a minor problem, like the one mentioned in the OP, if you are going to enjoy your stay here: Chill out ! coffee1.gif

Oh dear..... go to Singapore or even KL to learn how underdeveloped public transport is here in BKK. If you want to see "world class", then go to Tokyo. Even in 100 years, Thailand will not come even near.

Direct can be courteous as well.

And genuine question here, not trying to imply you should leave, but why on earth would you stay here for twenty years feeling the way you do?

Don't know about any Thainess card, to me always worth looking for the good rather than focusing on the bad wherever in the world I am.

Funny how some people simply cannot deal with reality .

Services are not run here for the convenience of consumers ,I may be a ltd oldbuffer but decoupling greed and corruption is the key to procurment. You ride me long time ?

Wisdom of planning shows one Airport with an incomplte row of rotting towers of a failed link another with a vaste unused terminal at Makkasan where you cannot check into the majority of flights, huge wsteland but no parking and sure you can whizz to Swamy in minutes then wait in endless check in lines.

Sick transit gorier Monday

"Cluess as usual" infers the OP has multiple "issues" with this service, but yet as a consumer carries on using it and resorts to bleating on an internet fourm...if you are so unhappy about the service...dont give them your custom then...take a taxi...

I just made a first in 2 years' trip to USA. No problem with my 2 flights from KKC to BKK and then check in / Immigration both ways at Swampy.

Of the 4 domestic flights that I took in USA (6 segments total) there was 1 flight cancellation (re-booked OK), one delayed flight where I thought I would miss my connection (it was a continuation on the same equipment so no problem there) and one flight that, when I arrived at the airport, the airline told me that they didn't have my reservation (they had changed my record locator).

So 3 angst episodes in USA and smooth sailing all the way in Thailand.

Incredible that some still want to moan about significant improvements in public transport infrastructure. Bangkok might not be up to Tokyo's standard but I think Tokyo might have had a head start! Bangkok's public transport is better than Phnom Penh's.
