Widower Status ?

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone knows what is the legal status (visa) of a falang if his Thai wife dies before him ? Can he still stay in the country and for how long ?

Thanks

You have no legal status before or after. You are here on a visa. If that visa has been extended your reason for extension has ended. So you would have to look into investment or retirement type options if you wanted to remain in Thailand long term. Of course you could still obtain tourist type visas for the short term.

Thanks a lot. I have two more questions:

1) What happens if I inherit a working business named on my wife's name ? Does this helps ?

2) I had a one year retirement visa but forgot to extend it. If I will make a new one, will it be considered as two years, or I must have three years successively ?

If you are aiming for permanent residency, in addition to a bunch of other stuff, you need three years on the same visa in order to start qualifying. If your current visa has expired, you're back to square one.

I don't know the laws about inheriting a business - but I think you can only be a part (minority) owner, not whole owner.

1. I suspect it would add the chance for a "B" type visa to the retirement or investment types but believe you should seek legal advise on that as it may be complex and there may be things that should be done in advance.

2. Don't understand your question.
