My wife and I do a lot of thinking. That`s because we haven`t spoken for the last 5 years.

Sorry to hear that.

By mutual conscent ?

But on topic ? Expect a thorough motivation from you on your point of view.

We think it is absolutely awful and that those who buy things from these children or donate to beggar children are either completely oblivious to the consequences of their actions and/or are fools.

For tourists 1 can make excuses though. They not come here to change or think about Thai society. People living here, expats with kids, should know it keeps the system in place by donating or buying goods.

Young children selling flowers, chewing gum, doing shoeshine etc on evening /nighttime in touristareas and big cities ?

Are you referring to Thailand?

Are you assuming that the majority of the children are Thai?

Well, this is Thaivisa so........yeah. Does it make any difference where the children come from ? Children are children regardless of race, colour or gender.

Lets say its a culture shock.

More over, I would like to say that my severely disabled 11 year old has no access to education, she has no voice to shout for.

Can I have Ferrari please?

Disabled people are hidden away from society, unless they are being used (more than one would expect).

Its a fact and is very sad,,,,,Lets say it is a non comformity.

This is a fact not fiction

My last post was crass.

Disabled people have every right as anyone else.

I was pointing out my daughters dilemma.

My girl cant speak or help herself at the age of 10, she needs to be clothed and watched,

The percentage of care given to her by the Thai government is 0. Fact.

Sad but true, only thing I can say is that she she (WE) have the best family on Earth.

As she is Kriang Loo makes it worse. It makes everything different.

But who cares anyway.

It seems like an exciting life.

Nah seriously I don't know what to think about it. Obviously it would be great if their parents decided to care for them instead of selling them into these gangs. I hope the gangs at least treat them nicely and feed them well. I wish they were being cared for and going to school and growing up to cure cancer. Better to give them a snack than money imo.

I don't have time to be thinking about other children. Too busy taking care of my own children.

????

You asked what did people feel/think about children selling stuff.

Unless you are actually going to do something about it, then why waste time thinking about it. i'm not going to do anything about it, so I don't waste time thinking about it.

That reply is not what the majority of people want to see, but is probably the most honest answer on this thread.

There's a reason you'll only find them in tourist areas. And if the locals don't think it's bad, it probably is.

Not bad.

You not only see it in tourist areas though. On a way lesser extend you can see them in big provincial cities as well.

Shouldn't this be posted in the marriage forum, under secrets of a successful marriage?

I'm sorry to hear about your situation but I think many posters here have no interest in social services that would aid you and your daughter. If they became available I suspect many would be protesting thailand's becoming a nanny state. Perhaps they just feel it's better to have an every many for himself situation and to hell with anyone who has bad luck on the draw.
A few days ago I was in a mini Tesco and saw a young (10?) girl in a wheelchair which is generally unusual in thailand, period. My first thoughts were that I'm so fortunate not to "walk in her shoes". When the Missus and I walked out of the store, I saw that this young girl was slobbering uncontrollably and then I realized her condition was far more severe than just a lack of mobility.
Sympathy and or pity may not be helpful for the girl or her parents but for one to publicly express callous disregard for others is beyond my comprehension.

No different in any other "tourist" area in the world. Children have and are and always will be used for these services. Mexico, Jamaica, Europe, Asia, most Caribbean Islands, Africa, and to a much lesser extent in places like Australia, US, Canada. But it still happens.

What do I think? It is terrible. But what is your point? Do you want to eliminate all children from being exploited? Noble effort, hardly realistic. The world has developed itself into a have and have not population base. Those that have will never give it up, those that have not will never be given the opportunity to have. Simple. Will never change so either live with it or don't.

Slow down a bit,i know some Thai Children who as you call it ,work at night selling flowers and what else have you.

The fact is their parents also work and have no one to babysit and it is a family affair.

I do believe they do not get enough sleep but that is something else.

people in general do not care about children in the streets begging , i suspect they think it is not their problem or they think they children are working for their carers who take all their money they make. As for disability a lot of people also dont care about them , they do not open doors and help them in a lot of ways. How do I know, because i was in a wheelchair for 2 years. There are some people who really care , and god bless them .
