It’s easy to blame him for what he does but why doesn’t Thailand do something about it’s social conditions that create opportunities for such people? Just sayin...the hypocrisy around this issue in Thailand smells worse than a dead horse beaten and beaten again.

and one more thing...local men are far and away abuse children more than such pigs from other countries. It’s just not a good headline, if they get arrested at all.

That almost goes without saying.

However there have been news reports of Thais being busted for child rape. It's usually girls. Not sure why it's usually girl cases resulting in busts.

There is more help and assistance now for those who have suffered sexual abuse, but, unfortunately, there can still be perceived stigma by male victims so these are still less reported here. It is still a huge issue in Thailand and, as someone rightly pointed out, poverty is a huge factor to parents turning a blind eye.

I can't get my head around people that think young kids are attractive for those purposes. Makes me sick!

I can't get my head around how any man might think another man is attractive, FULL STOP bah.gif

Let alone a child of either gender...

Why stop there?

How about ...

Fat people

Old people

Gingers

People of different races

F-rangs

Alcoholics

Republicans

Why did you leave out Democrats? I mean they have far more colourful history in this regard. The candidate to be the Mayor of New York being a prime exampletongue.png

As much as I appreciate that police is circling in on those crooks, I would like to see the same Thai investigative enthusiasm invested when it comes to local Karaokes and Thai/Chinese brothels, where minors are sold on a daily basis by THAIS to THAIS! But perhaps a bust in such places would not have as much media impact as one about those bad, bad, bad, foreigners fiddling around with underage boys.

Oh, sorry - now remember why there are no local Thai busts; As a matter of fact local police (also in the area where I live) are the Karaokes' best customers spending their palm grease in those places, boozing the night away and taking out the 14 year old "service girls" for a "short time" on a daily basis.

As I wrote so often, but it can never be said often enough: Thailand should be added to international dictionaries as substitute word for hypocrisy.

A lot worse here in Cambodia. Castration with a very blunt instrument, me thinks.

Or give the parents the option of doing it.

Shame is (IMO) they will still go for the quick payoff and keep quite rather than see the nonce sentenced by a court.......

I am actually shocked how some people being born in civilized countries here comment....not to say I am disgusted....I do not agree on people having sex with kids but that does not mean that I would use barbaric means to stop such person....some of you should think before they post In my opinion.....but in some instances there maybe nothing there to think with....

However the whole issue is much, much more complex and paedophilia is considered to be an illness in some countries. In some countries it is even part of the culture e.g. Japan. But as I said a complex issue.

What puts me off with this kind of reports is that it is always the bad farang doing such bad things (wether this guy really did something 'bad' nobody of us knows by the way it does not say in the article and having porn for me is nothing bad about). As someone said before in Thailand u find quite few, quite disgusting things which are never reported about. Such things cannot be found to the extend in western countries.

Update;

Mr. Tschopp has been wanted by the French Police after he had committed to illegal activity with minors in France before, which made him escape France to Thailand, where he had continued to do the unlawful activity for over 20 years.

He will now be charged by police for several allegations before he’ll be referred to the Pattaya Provincial Court.

Swiss Arrested for Over 20 Years Minor Violation

French Police were able to finally find a suspect who escaped after he had allegedly violated a minor in France for over 20 years. The Swiss national was arrested by Pattaya Police officers at his house in Pattaya, finding several illegal things, such as nude pictures of minors or pornographic videos involving minors.

PATTAYA – July 26, 2013 [PDN]; The Pattaya Provincial Court issued arrest warrants after it was certain that a Swiss national was committing himself into illegal activity with under-age boys. Police raided his house that located in the Takeantia sub-district.

The suspect and owner of the raided house was named Mr. Robert Constantin Tschopp, aged 67. He denied all accusations and permitted the police officers to search his house. A 13 year-old was found in the house as well, who was believed to be another victim of Mr. Tschopp. Police were able to find several illegal things within the house, including nude photos, calendars of minors and even pornographic video.

@Jingthing

I made no accusations. I simply asked you a question. Those with a "good education" can tell the difference.

More accurately, it was a mildly ACCUSATORY loaded question.

Not quite as bad as a question like ...

When did you stop beating your wife?

I will grant you.

You seem to feel the need to challenge everything anyone says. Emotions run high on such discussion, especially from parents. The comment about "you shouldn't visit ancient Greece" if child molesters make you angry is a typical example.

Then you suggest that people are not well enough educated beyond their own experience!?!

Sexual crimes against minors are among the most despicable and however insightful or Educated you perceive yourselves, I think your comment which attempts to draw parallels or similarities from ancient Greece where uncalled for to say the least.

You should try to be a bit more sensitive though. Ancient Greece and arrest of a suspected Pedophile. Its just not nice.

I'm sure you have a clever re course, how else does someone get 43k comments.

As usual with these sorts of incidents, the newspaper article says nothing at all about anyone being involved against their will, or being in any way coerced, but the "hang-em-high" posters just seem to assume that is the case.

if you are referring to the 13 year old found at the house I believe in the eyes of the law they are not old enough to differentiate whether they are there “ against their will “ or have been “ in any way coerced “? So what is your point?ermm.gif

Problem is.. if he has enough money he will get off and everything will be forgotten about..

We should question the morals of the police that investigate these crimes and allow scum like this to continue unabated as long as the right palms are greased!

You can be a pedophile in Pattaya for as long as you want, if you have enough money, and never ever fear going to jail..

Have to disagree. There may not be a cure per se (and castration a silly option as can increase frustration and lead to increase in violence), but counselling can help offenders to control their urges. Many sex offenders are disgusted by their own actions, while others revel in them. The former group can be helped and can avoid re-offending

I guess if the Thai gov. actually cared about their people and made better lives for them, their children wouldn't be enticed by a few baht to have sex at a young age! Same goes for Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos and Burma!
