Hello, i´m from Sweden and really want to drive a Volvo here in Thailand.
So i found a goodprice Volvo C70 T5 in my hometown.

Just like this link:
http://www.auto123.com/en/volvo/c70/2008/review?carid=1086400901&artid=99764&pg=2

It already have the wheel on the right side since its imported from England to Sweden.

What i want to know is how much it would cost me in taxes to take it in to Thailand?

And if somebody know, how much is it to send a container from England to Thailand?
The reason i ask is if its more cheap mayby i can find myself a good C70 T5 in England and then take it here insteed.

The price on the car is about 450 000 baht, and the car has a 2.5liter T5 engine with 227hp.

Best regards.

I think if you budget 500,000 +- 10% you should be safe..

Ok, thanks for the answer.

So u think i should be able to get the car here, pax tax etc.

And still be under 1.2m baht ?

The car costs 450 000 baht, and i think the container is about 125 000 baht for send, not 100% sure.

The car will be taxed on the Thai value. How much does this car cost in Thailand?

That is the problem, i dont think this car is being sold in Thailand at all.

I'm afraid that because it >220HP it's gets the full 380% in taxes, on the Thai appraised value, not the 450K it's actually going to cost.

OP: Budget on it costing you 3.5 Million +/- 250K Baht in total.

That means it is up to the customs officer (which is more or less the case anyway), to determine the value and tax you.

See IMHO's answer for the total costs (unless the customs officer likes you car and wants to keep it for himself or a friend, in which case he could easily ask a million or more more.

Have a read of this link. It is from the Customs department website. Go halfway down the page for a permanent importation of a vehicle.

Ok, after reading a littebit i can see its now worth it to take a Volvo to Thailand.

I guess given English being his second language it can go either way? smile.png

Hehe, no problem with my English, just a phone that likes to do the spelling/autocorrect.

Ofc i was going to write, i see its NOT worth it. :)

I better start looking for a cheap convertible here in Thailand instead.

Anybody know how it is with taking a car from Cambodja in to Thailand?

Or from Laos?

I have seen cars with both Cambodja & Lao plates in Thailand.

Perhaps its more easy to import it to Laos or Cambodja and then take it to Thailand.

Of course I meant not offense..

Actually suggested this years ago but looking into it it becomes even more convoluted and as such really doesn't save anything and continues to be convoluted for the entire term of ownership of the car.

Ok, i understand.

Mayby then it´s better to buy some of the Thai produced luxury cars such as Camry 3.5l or Accord.

Really like the Camry 3.5l but have never looked for prices etc.

Thanks for the help.

There's no V6 Camry's or Accords sold in Thailand anymore - and they never did sell very well with their 3M+ Baht price tags so are hard to find in the used market.

Seeing as you started off wanting a Volvo, why not consider an S40 (1.9-2.2M) or S60 (2.5M) 1.6L Turbo?

if you're trying to save money, forget about anything > 220HP or > 3.0L.....

Unless it's a truck or SUV.. rolleyes.gifcoffee1.gif Very exciting, those.. Too bad it's not consistent as an Rx8 is only 1.3L but produces over 228 and it's even a 4 seater so it fulfills all the requirements but no chance of that either..

Yep, if Mazda TH took the RX8 seriously while it was still in production, they could have made a slightly detuned model to avoid getting the full 380% in taxes, and they could have also stopped the gray market at the same time... Anyways, they are only 900K-1.3M used - so a decent buy used.
