KRABI: -- The police have granted bail to the bar musician who is accused of stabbing an American to death after he wouldn’t quit singing.

3 bar members in the southern resort town of Ao Nang, Krabi were arrested early Wednesday in connection to the death of a 51-year old Texas man, Bobby Ray Carter. The 3 men were charged with causing death by physical attack, an offense punishable of up to 15 years in prison.

Police Col. Boontawee Toraksa, stated the court grated bail Thursday to the man who allegedly stabbed carter, 27-year old Ratikorn Romin. His band members remain in custody, reports Kentucky.com.

Police report that the argument occurred after Carter had been drinking and singing with the band however he refused to leave the stage to allow other customers to sing. [read more...]

So , if I understand well , the guy who stabbed the American guy is out of jail on bail when the others remain in jail ? How weird is that ..... the guy will probably leave the country as usual or will go to hide up country. How courageous is that ?

I wonder what would happen if it would be the other way around .......unsure.png

Well, the lyrics of the song are clear:

"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave! "

May he rest in Peace

So the killer is well connected enough to get bail but the back up band is not.

Reminds me of life on the road.

What's the chances of this guy ever appearing in court, being convicted and serving time?

Only hope is for the victim's family to keep pressure on though the US Embassy and government. Otherwise will simply fade awa. Thais get away with murdering other Thais so what chance for justice when its a farang.

you would think that in matters like this that the relevant foreigners country would push for justice

Reading coffee1.gif this news about the "murder" as it was very obviously pre meditated. The guy had left the stage and was outside. I am facepalm.gif.pagespeed.ce.EuN79TyYk_.gif gobsmacked that the accused leader of the band of thugs has been allowed bail.

Why is everyone surprised? They've let people out on bail on murder charges before. Hell, terrorists have also gotten out on bail. It's not right but that's the way it is here.

In a country where police officers convicted of murder and sentenced to death are released on bail after exhausting all appeals, this one is certainly no surprise.

A while ago 4 cops were granted bail AFTER being convicted of murder and sentenced to death. how can anything a Thai court does surprise any of you after that??

Not much the US Embassy can do. Many similar cases but the embassy can't do much.

Well, at the end of the day at least the laws of physics apply to Thai people smile.png

Incredible...in any other country!!

Ummm... what other country? Many western countries grant bail to known killers.

So, as usual, it's not TIT....

I wonder what would happen if it would be the other way around .......unsure.png

Well not being a Thai he would be a flight risk, so of course no bail should be offered in such a case.

Three guesses who has the most money!

I wonder what would happen if it would be the other way around .......unsure.png

The same, money talks. coffee1.gif

This is all over the Internet. Carter was a president of some big firm. He seems like a decent enough guy looking at the photos of him and his son and other photos on the Internet.

I hope this comes back to bite Thailand in their behinds. It really is disgusting how these people in general resort to sub-bestial behavior over the most amazingly stupid issues.

Bobby Ray Carter;

President of an electronics company, with offices in Texas and China.

Father of a 27 year old son and 18 month old daughter...

...Murdered by Thais because he refused to stop singing (...and his son was stabbed in the arm trying to save his life)

Incredible...in any other country!!

So you don't think it incredible that the one bloke out of the three that killed the American is the one (and the only one) of the three that gets out on bail? You don't think it incredible that the Thai "justice" system is hugely impacted by / based on who you know and how much you can pay?

What does your last sentence mean?

You must be new here.

The ambassadors have their jobs because they helped their appoint-er get elected. It has nothing to do with assisting citizens. It's an extended paid vacation for them.

My question is: Was this guy's singing that bad or was the next guy in the queue being that impatient? It seem to me that the attacks are getting more frivolous every time.

I wonder what would happen if it would be the other way around .......unsure.png

Perhaps it’s an obvious case of self-defense. Then again, the guy was from Texas.

reminds me of the time I was attacked by a thai busker in walking street in front of thai police, they said he was mafia and they couldnt touch him

you would think that in matters like this that the relevant foreigners country would push for justice

Given the state of the police force and the justice system here, I think foreigners have given up any hope of getting justice in such cases.

It would not surprise to see a rise in vigilante justice in this country......

people caught with drugs are given 10 years, life or death..just for having a small amount of yabaa people get 6 years!.. but a murderer faces 'upto' 15 years

Maybe - as he is President of a company in China - they should get the Chinese Ambassador to get his say. They - the Chinese - do seem to back their people more.

Very sad for the family back in the U.S.A. to hear this news where the perpetrator is out on bail so quick :(

I mean....what happened to just punching the guy out? Don't think most people would have a problem if a few toughs from the bar smacked him around a little and kicked him out of the bar......what is up with the random killing??????

What does your last sentence mean?

It's not clear from the article that the other two were refused bail or simply have been unable to post bond. I don't know how Thai courts work, but in the West bail decisions will vary from one individual to another according to, among other things, how much of a flight risk they present (do they have criminal records? have they skipped bail previously? do they have strong roots in the community?, etc.). We don't have these details here. [Of course, the courts also look at the threat the person poses to others, likelihood of interfering with witnesses, etc.]

Last sentence? You mean 'TIT'? A common acronym in these parts for 'This is Thailand' ... cynically suggesting Thailand is somehow unique in regards to what's being discussed.

This is Thailand. Say no more. All these things will come back to haunt them in yaers to come as they slip slowly doen the ladder of Asian countries.
