Visa Extension And Songkran

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am on a Non Imm B visa, which runs out on the 14th of this month. I am looking for clarification on the following

I know you can get a 10 day visa extemntion at the Thai immigration office for 1900 baht. I have been told that I cannot do this during songkran as they are shut for the holidays. However if i go to the immigration department and apply for an extension on the first day they open after the holidays (monday), I will not be charged with an overstay due to the office being closed on the date of my visa expiring. The extension will however be backdated to my expiry date.

I would just like to know if anyone else knows about this or can confirm it, i would prefer to do this if possible as i do not want to take a flight out of the country at this time, and i do not want (it is crazy to) to make a border run given all the traffic and mayhem that will be around on the roads.

Thanks if you can confirm or dismiss the above.

I know that this seems to be a stupid thing to say but what where you doing on Monday and Tuesday of this week, knowing that on Friday Immigration will be closed for Songkran?

Could you not have gone there on either of those days instead of posting a question at 4 in the afternoon of the day they close for Songkran asking for advice?

I am sure that they would have stamped you up on the spot and you would not have this problem now.

Will you not have to leave the country anyway to renew the B visa and I also suspect that all the Thai Embassies overseas will be closed until Monday anyway.

:o

A combination of Work and Family prevented me going sooner, thrown in with some assumptions and here I am. It was a question of validity trying to back up some information I came across.

Not to worry all things can be resolved

You can go to Aranyaphatet for a visa run coz the border is open and not closing this holiday. I just had my visa extended today. You can go to Lumpini park, they have this Casino bus that leaves 5 to 6 am everyday for only 100 baht. Don't be late!
