If you wish to leave the country and you have an extension of stay based on retirement you need to buy a RE ENTRY PERMIT a 1.000 baht at the Immigration. If not, you will lose your extension.

A valid multi entry O-A visa or a single entry or extension from immigration? If not multi entry that will be valid at return a reentry permit will be needed to keep current stay.

You can obtain a re-entry permit at both airports now at Passport control.

Both ?

There are far more than 2 international airports in Thailand !

And I am pretty sure you can't get a re-entry in many of them,

at Pattaya Airport (PYX) by example

Yes. There are international flights to mostly Asian destinations from the old Don Muang Airport (DMK) as well as Suvarnabhumi (BKK) I do not know if re-entry permits are issued at Utapao or Phuket. Phuket is getting a lot of international flights these days so it's likely there. Can somebody confirm this?

I had to leave Phuket urgently last November. There was no re - entry permits available then.

It is wise if on an extension of stay to have a re entry permit in ones passport in case of need !

Spoken with the benefit of hindsight !smile.png

I'm curious; I know if you get an entry permit at the airport, it must be the day of the flight and a boarding pass is required but if one goes to Immigration, how far in advance can a person get one. Can you just pay for one and hold it in your passport indefinitely? I would imagine it would expire whenever the active visa expired; is this true or can it carry over to the next visa.

At an immigration office you can get one without the need of actual travel plans, you just apply and recieve one.

A re-entry permit is always valid till the current permission to stay date, provided it is not a single and used before that date. After that date it is no longer valid and cannot be used anymore.

At immigration it can be obtained at anytime if you are on an extension from that office or a visa entry. Many people getting extensions get the re-entry permit immediately after the extension stamp is in passport. Although there is an entry of travel date it is not required or could be anything and another date used.
