Malaysia's deputy PM to visit Thailand

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will make a two-day official visit to Thailand beginning Thursday, Bernama news agency reported Wednrsday.

He will be accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, two chief ministers and three members of parliament as well as senior government officials.

This will be Muhyiddin’s first official visit to Thailand since assuming the post of deputy prime minister on April 9, 2009.

Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, is scheduled to hold discussions with his Thai counterpart Kittirat Na Ranong and Education Minister Jaturon Chaisaeng.

He will also pay a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the statement said.

The visit would provide an excellent opportunity for Muhyiddin and his counterpart to renew their friendship and exchange views on bilateral issues of mutual interest such as trade and investment, the halal industry and agriculture cooperation as well as other regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The discussions are aimed at further enhancing existing bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Thailand, it added.

Chalerm: All workers coming back from Egypt will have jobs

BANGKOK, 21 August 2013 (NNT) – Labor Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has affirmed that all workers who came back from Egypt will have a job, while assigning the Social Security Office to help them with what they need.


According to Minister Chalerm, all Thais working and studying in Egypt have now returned home in light of Egypt's political crisis, which seems to worsen day by day, adding that all of the workers will have a job here in Thailand.

The minister further revealed that he has assigned the Social Security Office (SSO) to help them with what they need and lack. In addition, he has contacted the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to make sure that all of the workers will be taken care of.

Lastly, Minister Chalerm said that since he took office, the country’s labor industry has improved and that he would look after all Thai workers no matter where they work--at home or abroad.

Bt1.48bn counterfeited goods destroyed

Thai authorities destroyed about 1,630,000 confiscated counterfeit goods such as bags, sport wears, watches, mobile phone, fashion items, music compact discs, DVDs and other items worth more than Bt1.48 billion, the officer of Thailand’s Department of intellectual Property said.
