Govt and private sectors join hands in celebrating the 50th founding anniversary of Rajaprajanugroh Foundation

BANGKOK, 21 August 2013 (NNT) - The Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King will celebrate its 50th founding anniversary on August 23, 2013, and the government and private sectors will jointly arrange celebrations on the day to show gratitude and loyalty to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the founder to the foundation.

Director-General of the Government Public Relations Department Apinan Chantharangsi disclosed the planned celebrations at a press conference on Tuesday (August 20) at the Bureau of the Royal Household’s Sua Pa Theatre in Dusit district, Bangkok.

In his capacity as chairman of the public relations committee of the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation, Mr. Apinan said the celebrations will be held for two days during August 23 – 24, at the Sua Pa Ground. On August 23, a religious ceremony will be held in the morning, to be followed by the presentation of royal scholarships to needy students. On August 24, a fair will be held, starting from noon to 10 p.m., during which many activities have been scheduled, including an exhibition to show how His Majesty had dedicated the past 50 years relieving hardships of his subjects. There will also be multi-media presentations about the work of the foundation and sale of products, particularly handicrafts made by students of Rajaprajanugroh schools from nationwide. A computerized book-signing system will be installed to allow visitors to the fair to sign their good wishes for Their Majesties the King and Queen.

Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under the Royal Patronage was established by HM the King on August 23, 1963 to raise funds for victims of natural disasters such as floods, storms and fire. The foundation also provides educational scholarships to children whose families have been continuously affected by natural disasters.

STOPPAGE TIME
A dozen reasons why we're doing it the wrong way

Tulsathit Taptim

BANGKOK: -- To go by Somkiat Onwimon's logic, this article doesn't matter much. Which is too bad, because I sort of like the media veteran's idea that national reconciliation should be an issue for people under 40 to tackle. Having been young and now in that stage of life when you almost jump for joy when a twenty-something calls you "Brother" instead of "Uncle", I'm a wise man "in between". I say "wise" because I presume I know how both sides think and feel.

More than 500 local businesses affected by oil spill compensated

BANGKOK, 21 August 2013 (NNT) – An additional 532 local businesses in Rayong Province affected by the recent oil spill have been compensated by the PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited. Around 12 million baht has been paid to the victims.

Those compensated by the PTT Global Chemical included street vendors, motorcycle taxi drivers, owners of groceries and dry-cleaning stores, as well as other local service providers. Altogether, 12 million baht was paid out yesterday by the PTT for damage caused by the spill.

According to the company, the payment is just part of its rehabilitation plan, adding that each business owner has been paid 15,000 baht in cash, and that other groups will be compensated as well.

The company said it would speed up its disbursement process and expected all the compensation to be made by the end of August.

The oil spill incident took place late last month, with Ao Phrao being the area most affected by the oil slick and had to be declared a disaster zone. However, the area has now been cleaned up and returned to its pristine condition.

Easy Pass system to be improved as money reportedly missing from the device

BANGKOK, 21 August 2013 (NNT)-The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has revealed problems arising from using the Easy Pass will be fixed within 3-6 months after commuters have filed complaints saying the money added to the device was missing.

According to the EXAT, expressway users have been complaining that either their money has disappeared mysteriously or the remaining value displayed on the monitor was lower than expected.

The EXAT claimed that it would take around 5 minutes for the system to collect the information on the amount of money being deducted from the device before relaying the remaining value back to the screen.

The delay was caused by a higher number of expressway users since the service fee collected for using the device has been terminated. Easy Pass users have risen by 100,000 in number daily, or 40% higher than last year.

The problem has been handled since May and solution process is expected to be completed at the end of this year at the latest. Commuters are encouraged to check the remaining value on their devices online at www.Thaieasypass.com where the information is said to be most accurate.
