Hi all TV members and parents,

Ive been reading about the subject, it seems that everybody has a diffrent idea about babies learning and playing on ipads.

My son will be 4 months soon and I would enjoy using some educational apps with him, so much ressource out there! I wonder what would be the perfect age. What do you think?

Cheers

Haven't thought about it much. Suppose there's no right or wrong answer. Ours is 8 months. Not sure at that age if an iPad is any better than her toys. She's busy learning to crawl, taken for walks and checking the world out. What apps have you found, anything good?

Sign of the times when you read a thread title "infants and tablets" and its about iPads, thought you was going to ask about paracetamol or something.

Personally I will stick to the soft toys, floor gym and crawler until my nipper is a bit older than four months.

Also out of interest what are these apps that you have found ?

My son got his first tab with 2 years. He is 4 this year and managed to break 3 inexpensive ones and one dear i-pad.

For him it is like any other toy. The educational value is OK, but only as great as the apps used.

So many apps to name them. Just look in the education section in app store.

We speak 3 languages at home so I like the language apps. Other ones are interesting like whats the biggest? Elephant or the bear? The smoothest? The softest? ....stories, music...there are a lot!

I got my daughter an Ipad at about two years old. Great learning apps for it, from language to drawing. She

loves using it. As any parent of a two year old knows, caution is not a major part of their life. So

I have had to replace one screen when it was dropped. She also likes to see photos and videos

of herself and family she knows. Now at three she is starting to watch all the learning youtube videos.

I was paying attention for a couple of minutes and she started watching inappropriate videos for her

age. So then I set up a youtube account for her, and then subscribed a bunch of kiddie channels for her.

Get going now. There are plenty of things you can do together on a tablet, starting with reading interactive books. By the time your son is 1, he'll be navigating learning games by himself. Just don't expect to ever get it back!

And remember the number one rule (which we forgot): don't play with your iPad in the bath.
