Just looked at passport, it has 24 hrs. I think its safe to say I was scamed.

Yup they gotcha.

Looking at the stamp tells the story.

Always wear a spy pencil camera when dealing with police, at border or otherwise.

I see it primarily as an insurance against corruption, but otherwise,

if not for blackmailing back, it can still be cool to upload on youtube.

It was 500 baht, get over it. Not worth getting all steamed up over it and then insulting the integrity of these fine TV members ! cheesy.gif

Prefer lose flight or be put in jail for verbal confrontation against an officer.?

Be careful, in Thailand you are tolerated. You are not really welcomed.

Just be happy to get your planes and forget about this officer.

Go lao or else, it s everywhere the same. Sometimes you pay, sometimes it s free. Receipt, no receipt... You can ask, but don't insist. No fair? , yes it is.

I still prefer to deal with thai immigration than usa dhs.

I've not experienced this and always feel well received. The equivalent of a £10 fine wouldn't concern me either. If I overstayed, sock it to me, and would be happy with £10 for an additional day. Seems like good value.

As previously stated, utilise your humour and you'll be fine.

Strange that so many people who comment in the Thaivisa forum complain endlessly about corruption in Thailand yet seem to find fault with the OP and ridicule him/her for asking if he/she's fallen foul of a scam.

By not issuing a receipt, it's obvious the immigration officers put the money in their pockets. That makes them crooks, just the same as any govt official who abuses their authority for personal benefit.

While that may be more the norm than not in Thailand, it doesn't mean its acceptable or pardonable.

The OP was entitled to a receipt and should have asked for a supervisory officer if one weren't forthcoming. In fact, that would help deter such scams.

And the winner of the most helpful answer is...................................

As for well over 50% of the other replies I recieved, well............ it says a lot about the membership of this forum.

Quite possibly one of the most unfriendly and unforunately unhelpful bunch of internet forum members I have come accross.

It's a real shame because answers to important questions get lost in the rubbish written by those jaded members with far too much time on their hands.
