Kim Jong-un, North Korean leader, reportedly has ex-girlfriend, 11 others executed

SEOUL: -- A North Korean firing squad last week executed a former girlfriend of leader Kim Jong-un and 11 other entertainers for allegedly violating laws banning pornography - at least according to a South Korean newspaper.

The report by Chosun Ilbo, an English-language newspaper of a Seoul media conglomerate, published on Thursday deemed the reported August 20 executions a death blow to expectations that Mr Kim would oversee a transition of his isolated and tyrannised people into a more open era.

Like many stories out of the Hermit Kingdom, the reports remain unconfirmed and are based on unnamed sources.

In this episode, among the dozen performers shot to death while their families and former band members were forced to watch was Hyon Song-wol, a singer Mr Kim reportedly courted a decade ago but was forced to abandon by his dictatorial father, Kim Jong-il.

Hyon was pictured by North Korean state television performing at a concert August 8 in Pyongyang, the North Korean capital, less than two weeks before her execution, Chosun Ilbo reported, posting a picture of the singer juxtaposed against one of Kim applauding at the concert.

I've known many men who have thought about such things, but I never thought I'd see the day when someone who was actually sane (?) do it.

I've always tried to keep an open mind about NK, but it's obvious now that 'none as blind as those who will not see.'

"Kim Jong-un has been viciously eliminating anyone who he deems a challenge to his authority," the newspaper said, quoting an unidentified source. The executions "show that he is fixated on consolidating his leadership."

Welcome to The Party Mr Xi Jinping.

Meanwhile at secret building # x00658-H craftsmen were busy crafting a new medal to pin to the man's ample chest. Reportedly, it's 2 inches high, and depicts a girl stitched in to a black leather suit, from head to toe, with a cute platinum sword piercing her chest, and a dozen little rubies arranged to depict blood spurting out.

I don't see what benefit China gains from propping up this insane regime. Are they really that worried about having a strong, democratic, unified Korea for a neighbor? I had some hopes that this Western-educated young man would turn his country in a new direction. This can't go on.

I have the same concern about the emerging middle-class Chinese who want their son or daughter to go to a British public school.

Seems like a case of 'in one ear, out the other'.

The motivation for a Western education.....?
