Perhaps I am naive but I tend to think it helps if both individuals can speak each other’s language, at something above preschool level. A relationship based entirely on grunts and gesticulations, doesn’t look very promising in my opinion.

Weeeeeeeeeeeell, don't think that is quite true. My wife and I went from the stone age grunt language to speaking English together. Took a few years but we got there. All that time, and still do, have a cuddle (yes cuddle) every morning.

In my opinion there is nooooooooooooooo magic key to marriage success, cos we all change as we get older, every one of us, and sometimes that change is not compatible. I got the T-shirt(s) from a past life.
