Hello

I hold a Non-Immigrant B multiple-entry visa and just went to the immigration office for my 90-day report and got a stamp.

Now I want to travel to Laos in my holidays and despite having a multiple-enrty Visa, they required me to buy a re-entry permit.

But WHY?

What is the purpose of a multiple if you still have to buy re-entry?

Could anyone please explain?

As said, you do not have a Non-Immigrant B multiple-entry visa.

That is why you need a Re Entry Permit when leaving the country.

You can enter Thailand by any method you like.

He could still have a valid multiple entry visa if he extended one of his entries he got from it.

But it is worthless unless he wants to loose his extension by using it.

Well i bought a multiple (triple) entry Visa at the german ambassy...I koow because I had to pay more for it than for a single-entry one.

Maybe it is a bit complicated because the lady at the ambassy made a mistake and gave me an ED-Visa first which my University recently managed to change to a Non- Immigrant-B. Maye the new one is single-entry then?

An extension of stay is not valid for any number of entries. You have to apply for a re-entry permit. You did not get a visa you got an an extension of stay.

You are fortunate that they were able to get you an extension with the ED visa.

The embassy made a big mistake when they issued the wrong visa and then cheated you by doing a multiple entry visa that you didn't need.

You do not buy visas to Thailand at a German Embassy - are you trying to say you bought them from a Thai Consulate/Embassy in Germany?

As said above you currently have an extension of stay from immigration or you would not be allowed to stay longer than 90 days and would not be making address reports. So to keep that extension of stay you must not try to use your old visa for entry but must have a re-entry permit costing 1,000 baht.

I suspect you are now working at University rather than a student? And have a work permit which required the change to B visa entry/extension.

Yes, Im working at a university. IAs I said, I was able to change from ED to B. I already bought a re-entry-permit. I was just wondering. So Tthanks a lot all of you to make that clear to me (as the people in the consulate in germany did not really explsin it to me or maybe I did not understand it correctly). I got so many wrong information in the beginning eg that I would have to leave the country every 90 days.

Still think the whole visa-thing is very confusing...

Most people would not require a multi entry at four times the cost unless planning more than 3 trips during current extension.

the cost isn't that high, 3000 something if I remember well, and it beats the costs of formalities, waiting at the airport or spending the time go make a re-entry permit every time, plus saving the space in the passport!
