This is just childish, over the top and Porntipa Supattanukul is making Thailand look bad to the world, she is showing total lack of respect for her country by making it the laughing stock of the world.

May I suggest that the BIB get an arrest warrant for her, the crime of being an oversensitive knucklehead.

No crime committed. This is supposed to be a Democracy and citizens have the right to Free Speech. Pictures "imply" and may be considered "risque" but not offensive. You can not insult an inanimate object, only living people. Another "Black Mark" on the government brilliant thinking.

Thailand has no Free Speech at all. It doesn't even pretend to have it.

Whoa, whoa, whoaa, Democracy? Um, I'm pretty sure it's a Constitutional Monarchy, Free speech? Well, that was already addressed by another poster, quite well.

She has to stand in line and wait her turn..

I read the Prachai interview and checked out her Facebook page and I'm guessing that the LM charge is based on:

1. Her praising the 1932 revolution and writing the first constitution as a "liberation from tyranny" in the interview and

2. on her Facebook page she clicked like on a forbidden book - the one about someone not smiling.

Good reason to be arrested and locked up.....in China perhaps.

I think this girl should be the new leader of the uprising due soon.....she's got the balls for it.

The LM charge is not based on comments on Pratchatai or the liking of a book on Facebook but they could be used to back up the case with the authorities.

The filing of this complaint relates to a Cable TV interview that took place 3 months ago with students of Thammasat University regarding "the effect of the political situation and economic problems on students" and has nothing to do with the uniform protest that is currently being reported.

We will probably never find out what comments were made as the reporting of them by other media outlets could also be construed as LM.

The interview has never been broadcast and it has taken the interviewer 3 months to take this complaint to the police.....hmmm

Unfortunately anyone can make a complaint to the the police about another individual and the police are duty bound to investigate fully.

Most cases in the last few years have gone to trial.

Just recently a case between two brothers went to court about comments made in private between themselves.

One brother brought the case against the other.

The case was dismissed but the accused party spent a year in jail being repeatedly refused bail (due to national security concerns)

I think it was an excellent poster ad. It achieved exactly what it set out to archive. It certainly made me think about girls in school uniforms.

I think about them all the time - without the need for a poster.

If the readers of this thread learn only one thing from it - it should be to be very very careful what one says or writes publicly - particularly whilst this present government is in power! Take it as a warning and keep your own head low!

This might be generally right...but please don't tell me, you believe , it has anything to do with THIS government?

Remember: LM- cases spiked under Abisith like never before!

Thailand has no free speech, is no democracy!

Never was and (I think) never will be!

Bear in mind that LM court cases rose hugely post 2006 coup.

In 2005 there were 33 cases sent to court.

in 2007 the figure had risen to 126 cases

In 2010 (while the Dems were in power) 478 cases were brought.

Just be careful what you say.......whoever is in power.

There is freedom of speech in Thailand. It's just limited to positive speech.

I think this student in an interview said something like "I would not respect my own mother" or something to that effect.

Now what her mother (assuming her biological mother) has got to do with the higher institution, I fail to see.

But since what she what she has exactly said that was allegedly offensive will never be disclosed, we will never know

and be able to judge for ourselves.

As other posters have said, on some subjects it is better to just not speak, and smile only.

Regardless of what adjectives are used to soften the content of these posters they are without doubt blatantly provovative and totally inappropiate for an institution of higher learning.

Ohhh my god, can you please elaborate on whats appropriate for an institute of higher learning. Keeping in mind these people are adults and NOT children.

Allegedly....

I am confused... are we allowed to talk about Pridi, or not talk about Pridi at the moment?

It is difficult to keep track....bit like a communist country

Are you serious?? Do you understand what's going on here?? This is a lese majeste case. Such cases reached a high of 478 in 2010. Run off to Google to see who was in power then. Hint: it was the 'other guys'.

Thailand would do better giving the guy a job than prosecuting him to save face for insulting erm .... Well for doing something someone didn't like.

Thais need people like this - they do not need the dinosaurs in politics who come from an archaic past.

Really an ignorant response to a creative objection made under the shield of Thai Culture which has been honed to hide the ignorance of those in higher positions.

Yeah but the other guys started it.

I've been thinking about girls in school uniforms since, well, I was a boy in school uniform...................

A Navy doctor once told me one that I thought about women too much.

Sir, I replied, I think of nothing else.

Brave and intelligent Aum Neko wants to change things and allow for a little individuality and freedom of expression. Now she might get locked up and shut up due to some absurd LM charge? Why the need for a uniform when Thailand's students exhibit enough conformity already. It might be time to create a little nonconformity and throw out the uniform; although the uniform does nicely express the notion that Thailand does not allow indiviual thought, only group think.

If you were better informed you would be aware that the current government is trying to remove the lesse majeste laws

For youth it's natural to feel a desire to resist previous generation's values, and for society institutions it's natural to limit this desire. If you don't like rules of Thammasat uni - just leave it and study somewhere else. This uni was made by people with a certain vision and a point of view and if you don't accept - it's your problem.

it's getting worse when a few mentally disturbed, unsatisfied, frustrated individuals (such as this ladyboy student) start to use and manipulate youth's protest for self-gratification. it can become very violent, same as it happened in France in 1968. At that time in France people like you also spoke: give them some more freedom of expression! And what was the result? Innocent people died without any particular reason!

Such sick individuals should be separated from the society.

The rules at thammasat are that uniforms are optional, but that lecturers threaten students with bad marks if they don't wear uniform....

This is simply not true:

Unlike other government universities, Thammasat only requires students to wear uniforms while taking tests or participating in a ceremonies. Students are allowed to dress casually on regular school days. Despite those allowances the protestors feel uniforms are unnecessary, MThai and Kapook reported.

In Thammasat they have more "freedom of expression" then any other respectful Thai uni, but the nature of youth protest is it's never enough freedom for them. if authorities will give up, student and this ladyboy activist will find something else to protest. If she is deeply unsatisfied in her soul nothing will satisfy her.

It's a very typical situation: "if world does not accept me world should be changed" Any radical movement is fueled by this distructive desire.

Wow!

The troll is out again!

So enlighten us, oh great one...how does change come about?

If not through the young...who is bringing on change?

The establishment?

Someone setting the rules and suddenly...like struck by lightning...going "Oh! My method, that I thought of 50 years ago...is not that contemporary anymore! Thanks, ....(fill in the entity you choose to believe in) for giving me this thought- I will now go out and make change happen!"

But the degrading terminology you are retreating on (sick individuals and such) shows me, that some are full of it!

Once again!

They have never issued an arrest warrant for the master mind behind the Thammasat Uni massacre. But they plan to arrest some ad creator. Lol they got confused by priorities once again.

<deleted>! It's you who needs the read the signs mate. Lese Majeste is the perfect excuse. Thaksin first twisted it and used it and the defamation laws to his own ends. The 'other guys' having some 'western' intelligence installed, saw the gaps and opportunities. The present mob, who don't have a f'ing brain between them, will use it to its extreme to try and deny any free thought.

Please don't f'ing flame me when you obviously have little ability to free think yourself - <deleted>!
